Description I was feeling a bit jealous because everyone seems to have a Heart in Book Spine photo except for me. So, I got out the necessary materials and made one. Unfortunately, I don't own a red lens filter, so I made do with what was at hand.

This is my entry for $chix0r and $spinegrinder 's Anti-Valentines Contest .

yep, it's a real pig's heart from the butcher counter. the red filter is the thing most people use to put in the spine of the book. the light goes through it and makes a red heart shadow on the book. it wouldn't help this photo at all.

Fantastic concept. I doubt that this is a heart, though .

lol thanks... but why would you doubt that it's a heart?

Raventhird In reply to superkev [2006-02-12 14:49:49 +0000 UTC]

It rather looks like a simple piece of meat. I'm missing any characteristic heart structures...

what can i say? it's heart. a heart is a piece of meat

Yeah, of course a heart is a piece of meatn ... what kind of heart is it, actually? Do you have full shots of it? I'd love to see these.

Ah, I have been waiting for something like that . I think it's ironic, that we celebrate a day for lovers on the day, they executed the patron saint of the bee keepers, Valentine.
But I must admint I let myself into the flow this year and even recyled the lame idea you parodize here. Shame on me. I'm not even depressed enough this year to rant about it, as I usually do. then again, still two days to go, who knows .

superkev In reply to foeo [2006-02-12 14:45:37 +0000 UTC]

haha yes... but the bee keeper saint was in charge of honey, right? honey? sweetheart? huh? maybe? i dunno

foeo In reply to superkev [2006-02-12 15:04:23 +0000 UTC]

Nice association .
Actually he also wed couples who weren't allowed to. (Hence the much later tradition of the valentine's day.) Still, I prefer execution and the bee keeper fact . It's a bit like Easter, where we celebrate the execution of Jesus. Ok, being a bit cynical today...

Such an original take on a 'classic' theme.

You are, as always a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

Amazing idea. But it's very good.
Anyway, I think Valentine's Day isn't so bad. it's a day, when many people have more courage to tell about their feelings. In the other hand, that's true- it's too pink day. :/

hey I've been wanting to work with organs, what kinda heart is this? did you just get it from a butcher? any tips?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

superkev In reply to xPRedx [2006-02-10 12:59:17 +0000 UTC]

yup, i picked up this pig's heart from the butcher. they had a whole tub of them in the display case. i don't really have a lot of tips, because this is the first time i've shot with something like this. i guess just have fun with it, and don't let it touch your camera

HopeUnknown [2006-02-09 09:30:32 +0000 UTC]

Heh, this is a really nice shot. It has that "It's Valentine's Day again, I'm just gonna leave my heart at home today" feel to it I like that it isn't as obvious as the other one, but still retains it impact

Great lighting, sharp photo. Just kidding. Yours is certainly more original than the others, though gross. That may just be a vegetarian perspective, though. I love where you have the book open to, though. Funny. I hate valentines.

hehe i felt a bit guilty because a number of my friends are vegetarians, and i know they're going to be disturbed by this one let me tell you, as a meat eater, i find it gross too!

quirk In reply to superkev [2006-02-08 20:09:15 +0000 UTC]

Just something you picked up down at the butchers? I remember once in middle school, a friend brought in a cow's brain in a jar for some sort of science project. He was walking through the Gym on the way to bus at the end of school, tripped and...dropped it. Brain everywhere. I felt sorry for the janitor.
