Description
I was feeling a bit jealous because everyone seems to have a Heart in Book Spine photo except for me. So, I got out the necessary materials and made one. Unfortunately, I don't own a red lens filter, so I made do with what was at hand. This is my entry for $chix0r and $spinegrinder 's Anti-Valentines Contest .

I hope you'll win the contest
Excellent light (but, if I may say, some slight over exposition on the flesh... ), excellent sharpness
I actually like the contrast between the expected "bleeding heart" you picture yourself and this very neat, clean and carefully dried piece of meat. I imagine there were only few dammages to the book. It gives the idea of someone very meticulous, wanting to preserve one's book, and at the same time, also needing to have the object he inquires under his eye, to be sure there is no misinterpretation... nitty-picky spinster in toher words

great interpretation! yes, there was only a bit of blood smeared on the book, but since i bought the book for the photo, i could recycle it and didn't feel guilty

i like the literal interpretation of the heart on a book nice photo.
where did you get the heart from, by the way?

No ways!!!
I wish we could get stuff like that in our local shops. It would definitely make for interesting pictures, like yours!

check out your local butcher shop. i bet they have all varieties of gross and weird things that they'd probably practically give away for free

thanks for the suggestion! i'll give it a try. theres a butcher literally up the road from me. I might pay him (or her) a visit tomorrow.
Hmmm...its a twofold benefit: i'll get to take some interesting photos, and then have an awesome supper!

hahah and that is why I'm not a cardiologist; the heart is just plain icky!
looove that shallow DOF swooping in on the important text
great idea, although maybe you'll want to throw that particularly copy of the dictionary AWAY. A very funny entry for the Anti-Valentine's Day contest - winner!

hah yes that book is now being recycled. and the heart was a bit icky. i used a plastic bag to handle it, but once in a while my finger touched it accidentally

lol thats to funny, I never seem to have a heart near by when I need it
this is comical on most extents, BUT if I got all intellectual on you it would go like this...
"It's taken on a comedic side, I think, but its also so funny how so many people put there hearts on the line, I MEAN literally tell and give it all away, to have that love returned or rejected, people become so open and fragile, and how the heart is just there on the book, its so raw you know, how on Valentines day love is so raw, so easily able to be ripped or sewn together. When I look at this I think about the endless people who leave there heart on there sleave on that day, like on Halloween how the "creeps supposively come out," for this one day I think people are as vulnerable or closed as can be. How they might so easily also reject love because others so easily give it away, on this day"
well I hope I didn't repeat myself to much, love this shot though, hope it wins!

thank you. i really like your interpretation, and it's close to what i intended to communicate. i chose this book specifically because of how that entry for "valentine's day" reads... pointing the reader somewhere else.. a rejection of sorts
