Description
Laura is within three weeks of delivering baby Daxon, so we had little time to waste. We did our third trimester shoot today. To me, this is without a doubt the most important series of photos I've ever taken. I hope you have enjoyed following it as much as I've enjoyed taking them.Lighting Notes:
This one was carefully planned. I wanted to emphasize the curve of her body, and the heaviness of the belly, so I placed the primary light (flash with softbox) above her to the left of the frame. The high angle would cast a shadow below her belly, but illuminate her face and the upper contours of her body. The second flash with softbox was placed directly behind her, but pointing primarily at the backdrop to illuminate it and bounce light through her sheer shirt to silhouette her back. Without that light, the shirt looks solid black and conceals half of her shape. I added a third light very high and pointing at her hair to give some highlight and definition.

i really like how you were able to get the sheerness of the fabric to show. her breasts and belly compare so well together with their similar shape but different size. it creates some very aesthetic curves. the little black border is nice. i agree with suzi9mm though about her face being a little bright.

She must be in alot of pain standing like that. I can't imagine. My sister in law had a stomach as big as that. I was amazed at how big the baby was when it came out. A pregnant stomach is really a beautiful phase in creating life, I think. It's definitely a moment where a photo op is needed.

I love how you brought out the beauty of motherhood by exposing the curves you gain rather than covering them up. Nice.

I've really enjoyed this series I cannot get over that belly!! I rode the bus with my pregnant supervisor today, and I told her about these pictures, and how I can't imagine her so big (she's due in June)..and found out my other supervisor (who's like super tiny and weighs 100-110lbs tops) gained 50lbs when she was pregnant! That's half her normal body weight! THAT'S INSANITY!
anyhow.. it looks to me like she's looking up at the sky thinking "okay, yah, any day now would be nice"..like she's had enough of the pregnancy, and is ready for the birthing! (or maybe the post-birth time..I can't imagine anyone looking forward to the actual giving birth process. OW.)
I really enjoy how we can just see her back through the shirt..nice job with that!

The master strikes back.
The lighting... blows me away. The highlights and shadows are so detailed and specific... just wow.
Love the subtle lighting from behind that highlighs the curve of her back from behind the shirt.
Beautiful.

Lovely Kev. I bet this will be a lot of people's favorite of the series just because her shape is so pronounced. I think when you're done you should release the best as a 3 pic composite. Personally I'd pick 1Tri #3, 2Tri #3, and well, I haven't seen the rest from this trimester but this one's really nice.

I absolutely love this!! I went back and looked at all the others in the series and I have got to say this is my absolute favorite. Pregnant women are so lovely and it depresses me that you don't see them more often. I love the fact that you used the sheer fabric
I had been thinking about doing something similar to this but I have no skills sooooo No
You did a marvelous job!

I can really tell as you progressed through the series, that you emphasize more and more the heaviness that's growing within her. Hopefully I can expect that the final pieces will be shots of her with the new baby? *anticipation*
More notes about the piece:
I love her expression and pose, mostly because it seems she is highly anxious... how do you spell anxious? Damn Japanese. Well, what I mean is, you can almost see her counting down the days. Great emotion, it's all I could ever expect out of a great photographer!

i do like the pose and lightning that you guys went for. i duno why i find her face slightly too light, it almost blends in the bg, but it doesn't really...anyway. the belly does look extremely heavy and the her form shows through really well. nice job.

Wow, she's really coming along.
The black and white is so simple, and really focuses us in on the subject. Even the black material with the transparency gives a nice soft curve on that side of the photo.
Her pose it what I love about this though. Therr she is, standing in her glory, adn it looks like she's pondering whats about to happen. The time is almost upon her, and her life will never will never be the same again. The excitement, the joy, the sorrow, the good times, the bad. ITs such a beautiful image.
She's really lucky to have this period in her life recorded in such a wondeful way. You've done a first rate job with this series, you should be very pleased. I'm sure she is.
By the way, whats the deal with the S shape of her arms? are you going to get her to spell out the rest of superkev?

Ohh she's getting big. I adore the lighting and the natural beauty you've celebrated in this shot. I was shooting a pregnant woman today as well, and I now wish I would have taken a few 'natural' shots like this. I love the way the curve of her back can be seen through the shirt, that just makes this shot for me. Beautiful.

There are few things in this world more beautiful than a pregnant woman. I mean that not in a sexist way either. I just find women with child to be so fundamentally beautiful, and you have done such a wonderful job capturing that beauty with Laura from start to finish. Kudos to you and to her!

Nicely lit Kev! I'm starting to consider a lightbox of m own now
What really grabs me here is the "S" curve formed by the arrangement of Laura's arms. It REALLY helps to pull the viewer's eyes throughout the entire image.
Just superbly done bud!
