Tom Baker is my mum's favourite. And he is my second favourite (I have a special place for the First and Susan, I love them so much!). She does not watch nowadays (she is not a big fan of the revived series in general). It was thanks to Fouth Doctor that she always wanted a K9. She even bought me a Fouth Doctor RC Doctor for one birthday a few years ago. The next she got her wish: a K9!...But the sad part that the remote did not work . I still have him though .

yeah I love Tom Baker's Doctor! he, 9 and 10 are my faves at the moment I haven't seen all yet (only some of 1, and 4, 8, 9, 10, 11) so until I have, I'll wait on judging lol.

anyway, wow, that sounds cool! too bad it didn't work D:

Yeah.
One of my favourite Fourth Doctor scenes is when he is playing chess against K9, and Leela is moving his pieces, and K9 beats him XD, even the Doctor thought that he could not, with him having a 'machine mind'.
Oh yeah, Susan also has her own child, a son, so the Doctor has a daughter (Jenny), a granddaughter (Susan), and great-grandson (Alex), and finally two other grandchildren in the comics, Gillian and John (also it is never said whether they are related to Susan or not).

I also see you are a Star Trek fan. I will give my opinion the age-old debate of β€œPicard vs Kirk”. I am Picard fan all the way, I loved that he always tried the peaceful methods, such as negotiation, before using violence. I hated that Kirk always jumped right into things fighting, Also, he had a stupid death. I was also pissed they named the Scottish guy β€œScottie” and made him a stereotype in that series. I also love Capitan Rachel Garrett (it is sexist that she is the first and only female Capitan of the Enterprise).

haha yeah, I love that one as well

the Doctor's family have always fascinated me...

as for Picard vs. Kirk....I've never been a part of that, and don't plan to be. they have their separate good and bad qualities. they were their own times but I do agree his death was unworthy of him. and lol Scotty //DIES. that is not appreciated in Scotland :,D

Yeah, as Sarah-Jade says "You've got the biggest family on Earth" .

No, I LIKED his stupid death, as I did not really like him.
What do you mean?

don't know of that quote, but I agree

anyway, oh, sorry, misunderstanding; I'm afraid that happens sometimes. I haven't got the grasp I wish I would on the English language at times. but anyway, what I meant about not liking his death? well....he was a rather iconic character. he had his faults, most of them due to the era he was created in. but....he was also very very great for the context of his era. so, for all his past adventures, the death he got was just...I don't know...not really worth him, in my opinion. you obviously don't think so yourself, I don't mind, there's a lot out there who's siding with you. but for me, it wasn't right

Ooooh, I see *nods in understanding*. You have a good point, I supose.

I just noticed I accidenly wrote 'Sarah-Jade' instead of 'Sarah-Jane'. Jade is my name XD.

He sure is! But my favourite joke is this:

"Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Whatever it is, it's heading straight for the World Trade Centre" but there was no room .

Most up-tight people would be offended by that, but I love him for his dark humour (I even have his autobiography). The only person on par with him for me is Russel Howard.

He's got quite the expression. So far, in Classic Who, I'm still on the First Doctor. Based on your description of him, I bet I'd like him, though. So yeah... Yay, Doctor Who! (Also, yeah, it is weird that me and many other people refer to each Doctor as a separate entity, when really they are just regenerations of the same guy. Ugh... How did Gallifreyans handle the weirdness? [Maybe in a way similar to how Trills from Star Trek do? I dunno. Guess I gotta watch some Who to find out! Yay!]).

haha yeah! love it! googly eyed and manic grin! anyway, I started on the 4th Doctor lol. I'l do the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sometime...lol. but yeah well, they are the same person, but with each degeneration the every cell is replaced and the Doctor gets a new personality, so he kinda IS a different person every time...lol XD but yes, one wonders how they kept track on Gallifrey... >_> I think I read somewhere they do some kind of mind-touch when greeting each other, to politely let each other know who they are/which degeneration they are/whatever. lol.

unknown20troper In reply to surrenderdammit [2011-03-08 23:38:36 +0000 UTC]

Alright.

Yeah, that's true, definitely, though I think that none of his personalities can be complete 180s of each other, right? From what I've seen of One, Nine and Ten, something in him does remain constant. Maybe not his entire personality, but enough that, yeah, to me, they are all the same guy, just different. His soul, maybe? I dunno.

Yeah, that makes sense, though it would be weird, having people come up to you, touch you and go through your brain, even if it is just the Time Lord equivalent of getting out one's ID card. I guess that's part of what makes these aliens truly alien.

Also, I'm pretty sure that they are "regenerations," not "degenerations." Degeneration means something else, and so far, I haven't had reason to consider it to be an accurate descriptor of The Doctor's regeneration.
