Description It was early in the morning, so early the sun was just beginning to creep over the horizon. Through the window, a warm orange glow began to ascend into the room. The dark comfort of night began to dissipate, replaced with the active energy provided by the sun's warmth.

I was in the kitchen, putting away some plates, when I felt a shake underneath my feet. I could feel my body sway in tune with the ground.

'Oh. It's just a small earthquake,' I thought to myself.

Just then I heard a shriek come from my bedroom. Running inside, I saw Peridot sitting on my bed, holding onto herself as she swayed. Her eyes were closed tightly, and I could hear her whimpering in fear.

I jumped onto the bed, holding onto Peridot. I shushed her, trying to comfort her while the house shook. Some objects fell down, but nothing broke.

Slowly, the earthquake started to die down until it stopped.

Even after the earthquake was over, Peridot was whimpering. Something like that must have really scared her.

I shushed her. "It's alright, Peri. It's over now."

"What in the name of the Diamonds was that?"

"That was an earthquake."

She looked confused at me. "Earth...quake?"

"You don't know anything about earthquakes?"

"I hadn't encountered phenomenon like that before."

I got up and held out my hand. "Come on, I'll show you."

She grabbed my hand, lifting herself off the bed. We walked into the kitchen, where I saw two plates. I grabbed them both and placed them on the counter, one placed up, the other down.

"See, the Earth's crust is made up of plates that hold it together. And sometimes they shift," I moved the plates slightly against each other. "And when they slide against each other, energy built up in the plates is released, shaking the Earth. That's an earthquake."

Peridot still looked confused.

With a sigh, I pulled out my phone, and searched for an image of an earthquake. I found one that demonstrated the plates shifting and causing an earthquake.

I handed it to Peridot with hopes that she would understand.

"So there are plates on the Earth's crust causing these 'earthquakes'?"

"Yeah, basically," I nodded.

"Does that mean the Earth will be destroyed?"

"Yes, but not for a very very long time. Scientists estimate it would be thousands of years."

Peridot gave a sigh of relief. I was confused as to why she was so concerned for our planet that she claimed to hate.

"I wouldn't want you to die, at least not in that way," she said.

I blushed a bit. "Thanks, Peri."

Working up the nerve, I kissed her; she almost immediately kissed back. I hung my arms around her neck while she tried holding onto me with her limb enhancers. The floating finger-like appendages went to the sides of my body, while the arm enhancers just went around my body. It was comfortable nontheless.

We kissed until my lungs begged for air, causing us to part. She had a dark green blush, which I giggled at.

"What?"

"You look so cute when you're blushing." I smiled.

"Stop calling me cute!"
