Description It is a little known fact that long, long before I represented myself in art with a little orange white splotched whippet, I represented myself in art with a brachiosaurus - born out of my toddler obsession with Land Before Time and dinosaurs in general - that changed colour according to whatever my favourite colour happened to be. When I last drew and coloured her, she was alternating between pink and orange, so that is how I've drawn her here. She was my first 'fursona', and stayed so until I was about ten maybe. It's a special feeling, really, to be drawing her again. :3

I used to be a dino-nerd before I became a dog-nerd. I should start making more dino characters. This girl needs a name though. Any suggestions?

As long as I can remember, though I only started getting serious about it when I was 15-16.

Mostly, this Brachiosaurus here reminds me of Taffy. Simple name idea, yes, but, there's this company called Brach who makes candy, and one type they make is taffy. And she's all bright-colored like taffy wrappers. Google it, you'll see

I like Taffy!! It's a cute name. By this time though, I've actually already named her: Rilla, short for Sarsaparilla. But Taffy is a great name - I have this terrible weakness for candy- and sweets-names! :3 I'll have to save it for somebody. Thank you.

WolfandSquirrel In reply to swift-whippet [2008-08-19 16:34:41 +0000 UTC]

Oooooh, Rilla's a much better name anyway! But lol, I dunno. Taffy makes me also think of some sorta overly-sweet and polite non-existant character, too. It'd be a name that'd have to belong to someone as sugary sweet AS candy.

Anyway, it's really cute! I love it. I see that you've got many name suggestions, so I won't go hurting my brain for another one, so... Yeah... I like it.

Aahaha I can't believe you can draw dinosaurs as well as you can dogs! xDD But this should not surprise me. You drew her amazingly well, and yet still made her really cute. I love that she has some sort of soft innocence to her face and pose, which really hit me as an homage to your childhood. I'm glad to know you revist such old characters sometimes; I do that occasionally myself, and it's always so great to see them again.
Don't know if you've settled on a name at all, but I thought I'd suggest Selah-- since it starts with an "S" like Swift (and Shelley 8D), and the name means "to pause and reflect".

swift-whippet In reply to Trounced [2008-01-18 19:35:47 +0000 UTC]

thank you. yes I apparently have been shrinking in my tastes over the years. xD Drawing old characters is a lot of fun!

Sarsaparilla Sherbet was what I was leaning towards, just because it's fun and bubbly and brings me back to being a child. xD But perhaps Selah can be thrown in there since she is a sauropod after all and they weren't renowned for their bubbliness. xD

I went through a dino & LBT obsession too before dogs, and everytime I see those movies on TV or something, I miss my dino obsession & Littlefoot(he was SO CUTE in the 1st movie).

This is a very pretty Brachi! They're my fav(them and T-Rex-Chomper & his fokes were AWESOME!!!)

I would go with....maybe Ally, after the girl-apatasaurus in LBT 4...or:

Strawberry, Cassie, or Sue(LBT 10)...just a few suggestions

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

swift-whippet In reply to Stray-Sketches [2008-01-07 16:28:09 +0000 UTC]

why not revive the dinos like I did? then we can be dino-obsessed together.

well I don't like naming characters after characters in shows and movies, particularly if they're from a similar universe or the same species. the connection gets too close and I find it hard not to think o one without the other. as much as I liked Ali from LBT4, she is her own character, and my Brachiosaur is herself. *shrug* you know?

Aww, so adorable! I used to be so obsessed with the Land Before Time, it was nuts. I even have a little Cera luggage tag that I still use!! When I was little, my parents got me this huge book of different dinos and I used to scour the pages to find a dinosaur that would make a great pet so that it culdbe my imaginary friend. Ahhh, good times good times...

Oh, right about your picture. I'm so envious!! Not only can you draw amazing dogs but you can also draw amazing DINOS!! God, you never cease to amaze me.

swift-whippet In reply to dubangel [2008-01-07 16:25:17 +0000 UTC]

I never bought any of the actual show merchandise, but I had ten thousand little plastic dinosaurs from various parts of the mesozoic that I just played with and made up stories with. I played with them more than my Barbie dolls, too! xD and my favourites were the longnecks, naturally!

thank you Sepia. though there's still plenty of things I need to learn to draw better though -- backgrounds, for example. xD;

glad you like her Janice! I am thinking of drawing more dinos.

OMG that's awesome. I never see people who have dino-sonas, or ever past ones.

I think she's adorable. As for a name, how 'bout Oink (Orange/pINK)? Nah, I'm kidding. XD She looks like someone who needs a name ending with an "uh" sound, like Tia or Maria or Diana or Savannah (no joke, I know people who live in Savannah and are named Savannah) or maybe even Fanta. Actually, Fanta is fruity like she is color-wise. Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea.

As for my crazy, made up names, I'd go with Qina (key-nuh, for some reason I really like it when the "Q" is pronounced like a "K").

Brachi is cute, but too obvious. They did that all the time in the LBT sequels: Hyp = Hypsilophodon, Mutt = Muttaburrasaurus, Dil = Deinosuchus, Ichy = Ichthyornis, etc. Even Cera. xD
