Description more figure drawings, yay. I just drew these this morning in fact. really liked the way they came out, too. col-erase is my hero.

I don't think it counts as mature. if I'm wrong, somebody tell me.

See, I agree with you, but deviantART does not. They always move my figure drawings :[
thanks though I'm still proud of those even though they date back to 2006-7 xD

Okay, so I've been drooling over these for forever and trying to think of ways I could appropriately lavish you with praise, and possibly steal them (both submissions of your figure drawings). Turns out there's no way to properly tell you how awesomez these are, but they are awesomeZ. The middle one at the top, especially... squee. How long were these poses?

you're way too kind to me.

All these were one- and five-minute poses, which was how we warmed up in anatomy class before working on a whopping forty-minute pose. x_x; I think you can tell just by looking which were one- and which were five-!

so glad you like. I'm thinking of scanning some more when I get back home since I kept the better ones (as well as doodlethings that I did in-between poses that I particularly liked) :3

Please do! I'd love to see some more of your figure drawings, especially the forty-minute ones. They're quite inspiring. My Drawing II class had a quick figure drawing unit and I was planning on uploading some of mine-- I'd love it if you could critique them, particularly the quick sketches. Somehow they're not as intelligible as yours, although I think our poses were only about as long as one minute.

Oh, I actually hate drawing long poses with a passion. I think part of it is because I hate drawing BIG, and the long poses are expected to be drawn up large on hugeass drawing pads because our drawing teachers are from an illustration background rather than an animation one. I was pleased with these quick drawings and was actually raring to go on the longer poses - because some models are just more conducive to being drawn, you know? I thought it would be one of those days since the warm ups were going so well - so we start on the forty-minutes and that woman suddenly became impossible to draw x_x; I kept making her torso and waist too long, I was so embarassed when end-of-class critique rolled around.

I'd be glad to look at them and let you know what I think although honestly, I think you're way more competent at drawing the human figure than I. especially if you keep in mind that this is after two semesters of lessons (primarily figure drawing) with THE AWESOME DRAWING TEACHER that I raved to you about, plus almost two more semesters of quick poses every week. I've had a lot of practice. :3 maybe I should upload some of the figure drawings I did when I was a freshman too, I still have some of those saved. :3

zomg I know what you mean! I guess I wouldn't say I hated long poses with a passion, but I know what you mean about the model suddenly becoming impossible to draw. xD That's funny that you made her torso too long; a strangely common mistake I keep making is drawing the model's legs too long, and sometimes even too wide, and my instructor would pass me and say, "okay, so step back from your drawing and tell me what you see." Woo, embarassment-- I know what you mean about that too.

Thank you! I'm flattered to know you think I'm probably competent at drawing the figure, and I do feel confident. Like you said, though, you've had a lot of practice, and no matter what, you'll probably have some advice to give me because of it. This passed figure drawing unit in my Drawing II class was my mere second life drawing practice ever, so your experience will probably help me. It would be fun to see some of your older figure drawings if you decided you wanted to upload them! ^^

It's worse of course when you're in a class with people that just kick ass at figure drawing. it's like D'OH.

Just let me know when you have 'em up?

Again, very good. Do you do these every day? Is it always a nude person, or is it other things as well?

Your welcome! ^^ Cool, thanks for answering my question.
How many drawing classes do you take?

...Sorry for all the questions....I'm just a little curious...^^

I'm in art school, so they're a requirement I took a Drawing class last year (which was my first year in) - five hours of figure drawing every week. and this year I take Anatomy, which is figure drawing but keeping bones and muscles more in mind and not just drawing the shapes that we see. Anatomy Class is only three hours long though.

ask as many questions as you like

Oh thats neat! I've been thinking about possibly becoming an artist....but I'm still not too sure about it. Everybody I've talked to about it always brings up the subject of "Starving Artist", and yet some say that I have the tallent if I just work at it some more....so I don't know what to do.

What other clases do you take? ^^

swift-whippet In reply to HonouTenshi [2007-04-13 05:13:17 +0000 UTC]

It depends a lot on what you intend to do - 'artist' can mean just about anything. What would you do - a painter, a designer, an illustrator? Just being an 'artist' is too broad and vague to be able to determine whether or not you'll be successful.

I'm studying animation which is a pretty hot commodity these days. I don't have the passion to do anything else I chose animation not only because I've always loved cartoons and the magic of making drawings come to life, but also because after I've been through this I can basically go into anything, since I have the drawing skills and the extra training it takes to be an animator. I could still illustrate children's books, or paint, or animate a little dancing character for an advertisement on television if I wanted to. I can pretty much do anything I want that has to do with drawing, with all that at my back. Not to mention, these days people are taking more of an interest in animation as an industry, so = more job opportunities!

Other classes this year: Animation (of course), Digital Compositing (working with compositing 2-D shots on a computer and learning about Photoshop and After Effects), Perspective, Storyboarding. I'm also taking Humanities and Science courses, which are requirements for my school. helps you not get locked into your own little world and learn about new things, which in turn can inspire you with new ideas.

hope that helps

Yes, it does help alot. Thanks! ^^

Yeah...the reason I said 'artist' instead of 'animator' or 'illustrator' is because I'm still not sure what I would be best at...probably a storyboard aritist or something. I've never tried animation before..so I would have no idea if I would be good at it or not. ^^ I've basically just been reading up on different things and asking around to try to figure out what I would liike the most and be best at.

I've also never had any professional training...next year will be the first time I take a drawing class...and I heard the major project will be a photo-realism. That class will be good for me I guess, but drawing realistic people isn't exactly what I would want to do all the time....^^

That's good for you that you're doing some research. Sometimes you might need to just dive in and play around just to see what appeals to you the most, you know?

And hey - I had no formal training before coming to this school, I've pretty much been self-taught all my life. still, I think I turned out alright

HonouTenshi In reply to swift-whippet [2007-04-14 17:55:54 +0000 UTC]

^^ Yes, research and LOTS and lots of practice. XD (most of it is just for fun and not practice, though...^^)

Oh, good...I don't feel so bad about it now...^^ My mom used to draw alot when she was my age....but she mostly did realism stuff. So she gave me a few pointers, but other than that I've been self-taught as well. XD

swift-whippet In reply to HonouTenshi [2007-04-14 22:49:45 +0000 UTC]

Whether you're self-taught or not doesn't really matter - I think what matters most is that you can love art and put soul into whatever you create. If you can do that then you're an artist in my book ^^

Sweet! ^^ That's exciting. I'm an artist! XD

Thank you so much for replying to me so many times.....most people I look up to here on DA tend to ignore me unless I ask a direct question to the actual artwork that they deem important enough to reply to...^^ (Though, I'm sure the main reason is because they're just really popular and get soooo many comments everyday and they just don't have the time to reply to all of them...)

YAY!

aww, no problem, I like to be of help to people if they need it It's one of the good points about not being that popular that you get swamped with comments all the time - really frees up the time to be accessible and that's so sweet of you to say you look up to me! thank you so much!

HonouTenshi In reply to swift-whippet [2007-04-15 20:22:43 +0000 UTC]

^^ Yeah, I know what you mean...that's one reason why I hope I don't become 'popular'...I wouldn't know how to handle it! XD
Of course I look up to you! ^^ You're a great artist! And you are very welcome, it was my pleasure.
