Realistic Ryuk?!..…... Wow...... You just imagine this stuff and being it into what it would look like in the real world?.... O.O.... How?!

I just translate their features into realistic-looking ones... Though it's far easier with the Shinigami, since they are not real, and are therefore from purely imaginary preconceptions. With (for example) L, I just sat for several hours thinking about how Ohba said he saw L as being a quarter Japanese, and three-quarters European. So I also sat for several hours thinking about how a person of such a descent would appear, and what their features would look like, and then I draw them. Like Mello, I figure he's German/Russian (or at least in my mind...) with slightly feminine features, and with Near, I imagine he'd appear very childlike despite being 18 for most of the series, things like that. And then I draw them according to my perception of their appearance, and try to carry their personality through their eyes and posture. ^.^

Ah! So you did read up on the characters too perhaps? Yes, I did too. I know L was supposed to be one quarter Japanese, another quarter Italian..... Stuff like that. Was it also odd to read that the original design of L was intended to be unattractive? THAT caught me off guard.... Maybe the appearance might normally be considered unattractive, but you just have to love his distinctive personality... So maybe their unattractive intention failed?

I had actually read that their initial design of L was very attractive, and normal-looking to say the least, and that Obata went on to create him as an unattractive character (or strange-looking), and added all of his quirks. Though no one thinks he's ugly the way he is. ^.^ For example, I read that he was first made to be very handsome, with the same clothes, but stood up straight, had eyebrows, and no dark circles under his eyes, but Obata, after thinking about what being "L, master detective" would require, decided on a more unconventional approach, one that would be the complete opposite of Light Yagami.

And the opposite principle worked so much better for L! It makes his position more believable.

A handsome L would be overkill, and you'd be able to get the idea that this is just "another anime".

I understand that! Making every character incredibly beautiful and perfect in every way makes it unrealistic. That's probably what I love about Death Note, it's realistic, even with genius orphans and Shinigami and killer notebooks, it's still believable, which is something you can't say for many anime/manga. Besides, L is perfect as he is, flaws and quirks included. And when I saw the first concept art for Ryuk and the possibility of "handsome" L, I decided it likely would have been overkill on the overly attractive male character scale. Have you seen it?

And yes, L is perfect just the way he is, flaws and quirks included. I call them his greatness peeking through his unsuspecting veneer.

I need to...... Where do I find it now?

Very glad they chose what they have now! Light is a little crazy. Misa is a pain in the ass..... Oi.... I won't tell you what'll happen to her in my fanfic. My dislike for her won't show up for a while.... Darn.
What did you think of her character anyway? Once she showed up, I didn't care that he was Kira, I felt so sorry for him. :/

Here's a link to Ryuk's original design: rebloggy.com/post/death-note-r…

Personally, I dislike Misa's character, but not because I believe she is stupid. I don't like her because she acts sweet when she is (rather frighteningly) malicious. (Such as when she implied she would murder, in cold blood, any girl that Light flirted with.) I feel she can be very intelligent when she wants something enough (not as intelligent as our darling boys, of course), but blinds herself to things she doesn't want to see, giving her the appearance of being stupid...and she's a talented actress. She works for her own means. And then when she wants to aid in Light's plan, she skips over important details, which ruins it, ultimately leading to L's death. He died because of Misa, and that is incredibly frustrating. So I have very little love for her character.

Sorry, but I believe Misa is stupid. It irked me BADLY when L said that he just might be able to fall for her...... AW HELL NO!! He ain't settling for THAT. From the get-go, she mentioned shinigami in her attempt to contact Kira. She blew their cover multiple times.... especially to aid in Light's death. I think the last scene of her alluded to her committing suicide... I don't encourage suicide, but I can't say it broke my heart to think that she did. She was just too hypersweet of a character for me to stand. She was 100% different from anyone else in the whole cast, even Matsuda. She was super-selfish too. I can't stand people like that, real or fictional.... And that scene when she got drunk before she met Taki? And what she said when she was drunk? I wanted to bitch-slap her. She thinks she's all that. Does she really think Light is into her? He doesn't act like it for a single moment!.... But ya didn't hear it from me. Her feelings and clinginess to him were..... Ugh..... No words bad enough..... -.-.....
I only liked her for the joke L was able to bounce off her that one time. "Yes, it would be very dark." *ba-dum-tiss*

XD You don't have to apologize to me for your opinions. And I don't think L was actually serious when he said that, lol. And yes, she commits suicide on the Valentine's Day following Light's death. I agree with you on the points that she was extraordinarily selfish and conceited, and as far as your statement as to whether or not she believed Light loved her...as I said before, I think she's pretty talented at lying to herself. She's the one who destroyed everything, and I'm pretty sure she knew it.

But why I think she can be (fairly) intelligent when she wants to be, would be the fact that she developed the way to contact Light, single-handedly managed the entire news building during the broadcast of her message, and created an encrypted message by herself. For an ordinary person with no genius capabilities, it was an intelligent strategy. Yes, she mentioned Shinigami and Shinigami eyes in the message, but no one besides Kira would have known exactly what those were referring to. Yes, she left evidence in the masking tape...but in reality, had she not been facing off against the world's greatest detective, there's an incredibly high chance she would have gotten away with it.

Not that I'm defending her.

Aha!! She did NOT make those tapes by herself though! The anime goes back and shows that she made those tapes with a friend to get the media's attention. The takes were shown on Sakura TV, which was the gossip rag station, so stuff from "Kira"? Oh, they would take that in a heartbeat! I don't think the execution was that genius on that one.... She lied to herself so much through it all.... Sigh...... Us girls do that a lot, I'm guessing. How do you think she know she destroyed everything though?

Well...figuratively, the whole plan was hers. Anyways, I feel she knew (at least at the end, before she committed suicide) because of her actions, that and the lyrics to her song...it almost sounds like an apology to Light, when reading between the lines.
