Description
Taken while on a hurricane evacuation from Tyndall AFB. F-101F flown by Col. Lawyer. I was in the backseat of the wing aircraft an F-101B. Sorry about quality of photo. I took a picture of the picture, I did not have a scanner at the time. Original was taken with a Canon AT-1 camera and Kodak film, I do not remember type.Related content

Incredible! What an opportunity. You caught him about two inches off the ground.

Unfortunately I was not the 'fighter pilot', just the crew chief. I did have my pilot's certificate and an altitude card which helped get me on a few fighter flights.

I did get to fly in them a couple of times, but never got a ride in an 'F' model, so no stick time for me to log. I was certified to run up the engines and taxi the planes.

Only in training did I work on the F-105. The training was for combat repair of the aircraft where-ever they were. It is amazing what you can use to get an airplane from one place to another!

I have a couple more I will post later. The Voodoo does not get much publicity. Did your friend get to fly Hawk One?

at Teterboro School of Aeronautics[those hallowed halls!,what a S***HOLE!] where i got my A&,we had an old USAF training device[light-up board thingy] of the F-101 fuel system. what a tech,s nightmare that thing was! and that was just a training aid. i,m sure the real thing must have been a handful! our BigBoeingBirds are rather simple, just left, right, center.

Yeah the fuel system was different. If the temperature got high the fuel would expand and then piss out the vent. One would then need to stop the flow with one hand and then jblow into a small hole to reseat the vent valve to stop the flow!

I'm not sure about that, I'll have to ask. I DO know he had to bail out once.....some exercise involving an escort of a U.S. B-47 or something to that effect...he was hotdogging and, well, things apparently went too far....

At Tyndall we had an ejections seat trainer for the F101 seat. I got a ride on that. What a blast! Pull the handles and before you know it you are on your way down from the top of the rail.
