It was great fun! Nineteen years old and playing with multimillion dollar airplanes.

It's what you make of it. You are in the drivers seat.

Unfortunately my family's tradition are ground forces
I`d joined Airborne and it seems that its a bit too far from the ground level!
But my sympathy goes to the pilots!!!
Somebody has to cover our back on the field.
Again...thanks for the Pilots!
Thats why you have wings!
And thats why you are the Angels!

I too was a ground pounder. I was the crew chief on the fighters. I did earn my pilot's certificate while I was in the Air Force. I took the altitude training that was available. That allowed my to go TDY when a mechanic was needed for one of the fighters when they broke down. So I got to log time in the F-106 and fly in the F-101 and T-33. I have since flown in or logged time in the following military aircraft. DeHavilland T10 Chipmunk, PT-17 Stearman, B-25, B-24, T-34, T-41.

Happy times...I`ll tell ya!
I`d spent 2 years on a Combat Mission and 3 on "so called" peace keeping missions.
With the aviation it was mostly polish Mi24, PZL Sokol and CASA.
And for some reasons, Pilots were always the happy guys!

You don't see very many action shots of military planes like this.

I had a few opportunities and I fortunately had my camera.

VERY fun looking.
I was told of stories from my friend who flew em in the CAF that they would fly along glaciers and roll inverted at the end, going shooting down the 'face' of ice.
You are certainly extremely lucky !

It was great fun! Uncle Sam promised me a ride in an F model (rear seat has full flight controls), but alas I never recieved it. But I did get stick time in F-106 and T-33 while in the service.
