Description
Drove down to South Carolina for totality. Β It was pretty neat.I'm happy with the corona here and even caught a solar flare (fiery little bright spot there on the right).Β

My pleasure! I have seen one in Germany in 1999 and it had been a great experience.

I shot all of the partial stuff with a substantial stack of ND filters and took them off for totality. Β But it really just looks like a crescent with some sunspots, so I didn't bother posting here.

How awesome! I love your shot
How did you photograph the eclipse? What camera / lens / equipment? Stunning

This shot was with a D810 and a Tamron 150-600mm lens at 500mm (it's crap at 600).
Just handheld, no fancy tripod or anything because the eclipse itself gave off plenty of light for a pretty fast shutter at ISO 400 and f/8. Β Didn't need any ND filters after totality.
I cropped it a bit and processed for sharpness and contrast in Photoshop.

Wow Maybe in a 100 years I'll have the skills and the equipment to shoot the way you do, when the next eclipse happens lol
Beautiful work!

Thanks. Β
Usually photography is more about the skill, but in this one obscure case, it really is just the equipment. Β
All I did was set the aperture and let the camera do everything else.

The rest of your gallery is amazing as well, so I don't believe this shot took no skill Perhaps you are right, but to me - it is a great shot by a great photographer
Keep up the awesome work!
And thanks for sharing this eclipse shot!

Indeed, that is a great image which captures many of the features I saw during the eclipse in Makanda. A beautiful picture from an amazing event!
