Kazekage ... who'd have thunk ... You thought as you sat on a sand dune
It was on this very sand dune where you first met the newly elected Kazekage, Gaara ... who just so happened to be your best friend. You smiled to yourself and looked at the breathtaking view of the Sand Village. It looked even more beautiful in the setting sun, if it were even possible
"Oh!"
You looked behind you. Gaara was standing there, looking confused. He sat next to you and sighed
"I didn't expect anyone else to be up here ... this is my spot, you know" He said
"I know. This is where we first met. Why are you up here?" You said, smiling
"I just wanted to get away from all those people for a few minutes. You know, I remember the first thing I said to you ..." He said
"Really?" You said, surprised
He just nodded. Silence fell ... and it stayed that way for what seemed like forever
"Do you remember?" He asked
It made you jump out of your skin and you looked at him with a smile
"I'm sorry but ... I don't" You said, embarrassed
He sighed
"I asked you if you were scared of me" He said
"Oh! Yeah, now I remember" You said, laughing dryly
He looked at you with a blank expression and you became a little nervous. He was a changed man ...
"That Naruto must've had a good influence on you" You said, smiling
"Yes ... that's what you said when I first told you about him" He mumbled
"Oh ..." You said, sounding a little uncomfortable
He shook his head but you noticed something that was rare to see on Gaara's face - a smile
"Sorry, my brain is like a sieve sometimes" You chuckled
You and Gaara watched the sunset, talking about pretty much anything that came to mind. He seemed to enjoy your company, but you knew that you would have much less time to spend with him now that he was Kazekage. After a while, he got up and you stared at him, confused
"I have to go ... people will be wondering where I went" He mumbled
You stood up and fixed your hair, which the wind had blown about for some time
"Is it alright if I go with you?" You asked
"Sure ... it would be nice ..." He replied

You and Gaara began making your way back to the Village. He seemed heavily distracted
"What's wrong, Gaara?" You asked
"You remind me of Naruto ... you believe in yourself ... and have friends ... people love you ..." He mumbled "I wish I could be like you and him ..."
"Oh, Gaara ... don't talk yourself down like that. If people didn't like you, then you wouldn't be Kazekage, right? I mean ... I like you" You said, blushing
He looked at you with a small smile, which quickly fell
"That's good to hear ..." He said
You both reached the village and you sighed deeply
"Looks like I won't be able to see you much ..." He said
"Well, you are Kazekage ... so you're bound to get busy" You said, smiling
He looked at you
"I'll try and see you in my free time ... you're one of the few friends I have ... and I have no intention of losing you ..." He said
You blushed a little. You knew that under that cold and emotionless exterior was a sweet guy. He walked you home and looked a little sad to see you go
"I have to go ..." He muttered
"Ok ... I'll see you whenever I can" You said, smiling
"I look forward to it ..." He said, walking away
You entered your house, closing the door behind you and you sighed
"Damn ... I couldn't tell him again" You mumbled, blushing
Oh well ... maybe the next time I see him, I'll be able to tell him I love him ... You thought, sighing
