"Here I am, Mr. Percival! I'm here for my Christmas coat of paint!" Duncan declared. Mr. Percival turned to speak with him.

"Is that so?" He asked, doubtfully. "You should know that I have eyes and ears everywhere on this railway Duncan. Other engines have been telling me that you are grumbling, more so than usual! It's making everyone unhappy."

"That's kind of a creepy way of putting it but..." Duncan, who was wholly unprepared for Mr. Percival becoming privy to this, replied. "...But that's just the way I am, like it or not!"

"Well I don't like it, Duncan. When engines are not happy they do not work well!" Mr. Percival said. "However, if you can do at least one good deed and be cheerful for the rest of today, You can be the first to get a new coat of paint tomorrow. Do we have a deal?"

"Yes sir. Of course." Duncan agreed.
