Arguably the most famous of the Great Eastern Railway's passenger 4-4-0s, the Claud Hamiltons were first designed by James Holden in 1900, though most of the actual work was performed by Stratford's chief draftsman, Fredrick Russell, and the first prototype, number 1900, was built at Stratford. The D56 and D15 were the same thing. The latter was just the LNER's classification for the D56s.
