Proteus arrived a few minutes later before the next passenger train was due out where he found Skarloey being shunted out of the way by Rheneas after he had returned from a down goods. "Thank you for coming on such short notice, Proteus." He said, gratefully.

"No problem, I'm just that kind of engine." Proteus said as he backed down onto the coaches. Agnes, Ruth, Gemima, Lucy, and Beatrice all were horrified to see an engine they had not known coming to take them away.

"Who is this engine! We want our Skarloey back!" They screamed.

"Sorry, girls, I can't do that. I'm not feeling well. Be nice to Proteus while I'm away, please." Skarloey told the coaches.
