<.< >.>Well, after the cutesy niceness of my last pic, I felt the urge to do one that was... not so nice and not so cute.
Not the most refined drawing ever- didn't bother to clean the lineart up much- but bwahaha, I haven't done a let's-be-mean-to-Sonic pic in a while... yay fun.
*cough* Ahem. Anyway, here's a future Sonic going ANGST. One or two people from the STC2 days might remember how he gets into this pitiful state, but there's no need to worry about that- let's just say I have plans and they are *evil* and leave it there XD
Getting to the point- this pic isn't meant to be angst for its own sake. Yes, Sonic has had some nasty things done to him, and yes, he's crying. But there's still defiance there. He's not broken yet. Angst and hope I suppose?

I'm pretty pleased with he way the blue on him came out. And the eyes. (them being the 'wrong' colour is intentional. In my odd little world Sonic's eyes are an indicator of his condition- a nice glowy green is good... nasty greeny grey? er, that's not so good.)

Yay! An fellow "Knuckles has blue eyes" supporter!!
Hmm... I've been trying to find a pose for the picture all last week, without success and then suddenly past midnight two nights ago it just hit me and I knew what the picture is really going to look like. Wham! Just like that.
Now I only need to get away from my gaming addiction (I recently got Kingdom Hearts 2 and Shadow of the Colossus...) and finish another picture and I can start working. ^^
Waahhh... sorry for that blog/plug comment. I got carried away and now I don't want to delete it because I spent time writing it. Ah well... I'm in a crazy mood...

Do you remember that I said that I would like to colour your sketch of that "WTF Dragon" you did at the Bristol comic convention? Well, I didn't colour it yet, but I started to fiddle around with it. When I'm done with fiddling, may I show it to you and ask you what you think and if I'm allowed to put it online here (maybe I'll make a coloured version of that one... who knows - I actually only did this because I needed some dragon scale practice).

Wow the coloring is really impressive. The touches to make him look from the future are really good like the grey streak in his hair, the rusted ring on his wrist & the cut up ear. The robotic arm looks great aswell especially the coloring and design of it. The concept of Sonic's eyes is quite unique cos' when he turns evil they go dark green and such so they way you use dthem to convey emotion is quite good. Keep up the great work yo

Whoa, that has GOT to be creepy. I love how the eyes look, and the detail on the mechanical arm and claw is nice. The colors are very awesome, too. Of course, awesome job!

Just out of intrest, why has Sonic got a grey patch in his hair? Is he a bit older in this picture? Not that I'm criticizing your work, I'm just intrested in knowing. I mean it does help create the 'darker' mood of this incredible work of art, but I'm just curious.
I used to have all the STC's from between 1998 and 2001, at least I think thats what it was, but I gave them all away to a friend for a dreamcast, a transformer and a months slavery.

Anyhoos. This is a brill pic, the detail is fantastic. I love the grey streak in his quills oddly XD The mech arm (Wanna know reasons behind that too XD) is fantastic, flowly yet retains a Metalix look (Would say Metal sonic, but we are on about the STV-verse XD) And the shine on it. And by the looks of it. A blaster?
The tattered ear is a nice effect too. Shows that edge that he's been though a bad way lately and the tufts of fur too is neat ^-^. Like the thing you got going with the eyes, dull grey/green is bad opposed to the normal bright green.
All in all. It's a very touching pic actually. Depressed Sonic with like anger and defience. But yeah

STC2 was an ancient fan comic I used to do around.... 2001 ish? I'm now reusing the main storyline (much altered) in my fanfiction.

You've inspired me for my own piece of writing for a completely different fandom, Thalia. Similar to the angst and the hope and the defiance in Sonic's demeanour, posture and expression here, the character I'm inspired to write about is an anthro version of an already established character.
"I'm not broken yet" is an apt and fitting title for Sonic displays this in everything he's doing here. And I love the Metallix look. It speaks volumes of what he's about to face, or has faced in the past events leading up to this moment and beyond.
A brilliant work of art. No question.

Yeah,I remember STC2. Shame you didn't continue with it. Great stuff... really shows how much effort Robotnik must have put into breaking or brainwashing sonic before he became his minion.

Fabulous work Umbra! It's 8:30AM in the freaking morning and this piece is fabulous enough to compel me to write!
The expression really is SO intense, angst-ridden, and sorrowful and yet like you've described, there seems to be some room for defiance and vengeance shining from those *rather trapped, but still trying to shine* eyes! The metallic silver eyes and that silver single streak go hand in hand. He almost looks somewhat aged. Not physically, but aged by being traped *wonders if that makes sense*. His former carefree youth seems stripped for what it's worth
You got that wristband enticing me, as well as that fully engineered left arm. Good work with the technicalities.
AND his textural blue blue BLUE fur. Fwoar! I mean, I used to find Sonic somewhat bland cos I mean, he was just blue. I have began to like SO much more, but you really do take that likability factor a few further thousand miles for me!

Wow! It's good to see you back, Umbra, and with such fantastic (and as always) inspiring work. I love the muted, almost dirty colour set you used, and the detail in Sonic's fur, such as the tattered bits, and that ill-looking white streak. The robotic arm looks really...really painful. His eyes, while dimmed and colourless, really do look beautiful, along with his tattered ears and facial expression, I can really see what you were getting across while retaining his character.

Holy cow, I love this to pieces @__@ The emotion in this is just... wow. It breaks my heart and makes me want to just give him a great big hug. I can really feel the pain and suffering he's gone through and continues to go through, as well as the determination and refusal to give up. Oh wow. Just wow.
The drawing itself is awesome too. I love the detail given to the arm and the coloring. It may not be the most refined as you put it, but I think the sorta sketchy lineart really adds to the overall. It gives a sort of worn and rough-around-the-edges feel that really accents and adds to the emotional power.
