I think he was abandoned once but lives in northern Japan with his owner who owns a seafood shop. If you Google his name, "Wasao" you will find bunch of stuff about him. I really don't understand why he is so famous but better than seeing neglected animals.

I am not those crazy animal rights activist or anything, but hate to see animals neglected. I feed tons of stray cats who visit my home. They know I am a sucker.
