Description
"Olivia, dearest, what would you like the new year to bring you?""I donno, daddy. I already have everything I could ever need. I have a new home and I have you, and all thanks to Mr. Basil and Dr. Dawson."
"Yes, indeed... We owe them so many things."
"Daddy? I miss London..."
"Me too, dearest."
"Why did we have to leave, daddy? We could have gone back home!"
"If only we could have..."
"... I didn't even get the chance to make a proper memory."
" Dearest, there shall always be time for you to make a memory. Time is certainly something you don't lack in fac- Ah! Olivia, quickly, make a wish before the clock strikes twelve. You have only ten more seconds!"
'There is always time to make a memory ... if that is true, that that shall be my New Year's Wish: I want to make a memory - a memory of a nice sunny day, with Dr. Dawson reading one of his books, with Mr. Basil playing his violin ... and sunshine and butterflies and ... '
"... 3 ... 2 ..."
'... everybody being happy.'
"...1!"

NOTE: the contest is open only for group watchers
Now concerning the work ... please do not ask where the idea came from. It just did while I was listening to "A Few Good Friends " from Piglet's Big Movie(can't decide if I like the English version or the Romanian one ( [link] ) more). And from there ... my hand picked up a pencil, started doodling, liked said doddle, then scan - Photoshop - changed my mind concerning the general atmosphere a couple of times (finally settled for a dream-like/memory-type one) - and voila!
Making the grass tall was particularly fun
Still ... I BLAME YOU DISNEY!!!
Anywho ~ this is my first time drawing bot Olivia and Dr. Dawson, so GMD fans, be merciful ....
edit 22'th of February 2010: a DD!!! Thank you ever so much

You're making me cry. *in a good way*
OH MY CHILDHOOD. I shall miss it.
Although it's good that Disney is going back to traditional, I don't think their future will measure up to their past.

I am happy to hear that (hope I don't sound like a sadist right now XP)
Unfortunately, I believe you are right.
Back in the old days a good animated movie came from the animators' talent and passion for their work and a decent plot for the story rather then on effects and ... erm .. computer-made-things. It is true that old cartoons often have mistakes (in the case of The Great Mouse Detective at least, there have been a number of faults and glitches, I must admit) but the advancing plot and constant movement of the characters prevent you from noticing them, especially if you are to see the movie for the first time, while with a cartoon or animated movie made today the action is usually slow, the plot is trivial and you can foresee the ending before the "action" really begins (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - Playhouse Disney at least is a good example in my opinion ... and I don't know how little children can stand it because when I tried to watch it it was literally burning my brain! Really! I did NOT have the patience to see it till the end!)

SORRY THIS IS LATE.
Don Bluth and Chuck Jones also have a lot of brilliant traditional works with a few mistakes. TOTALLY worth my time though. I LOVED Bluth's Thumbelina; his best work no doubt. Great storyline and characters, he's done very well traditionally. And Jone's Gay Purree is fabulous. The music, the voice actors, and his talent at bringing famous artworks alive in an animated film.
The Princess and the Cobbler also comes to mind. But only the few parts that Disney didn't mess with, like the scene with Tack sleeping and the thief, the nanny manhandling the thief, and the tack that causes a huge explosion. (plus it takes skill to put Escher's work in animation; 30 years well-spent)

Being one such fan, I have to express my deepest pleasure and gratitude! This piece is both expressive and emotional, bringing with it all of the thoughts and feelings your little story was filled with! As one who has often sought the art of those who seek to make brilliant work and word in tandem, I salute you.

It's sad when good old movies (and cartoons) seem to fade due to time and technology.
Truly magical things need preserving, I think, and I consider it a pleasure to have a hand to re-promoting the old, so not only the 'old' can have the happy memories

I have been dancing with that text all over the pic ... and that was the only place were I could actually put it (and one must be careful with art thieves nowadays ...) - but I'm glad you like it all the same
Thank you very much!

Catching little pieces of time...making them yours, making them mine.
Great vacations and celebrations can fade away in a year, but when we're making memories, happy days are always here!
All around us, everywhere we look, every moment that we live can fill a picture book.
Light and shadows, smiles and sentimental tears.
They're our precious treasures we can cherish through the years.
...I couldn't resist, this picture reminded me of that song which they sing in this ancient Disney sing-along video I had as a kid. Would you believe all those lyrics just popped in my head again? But the title rings true with the image, it's beautifully drawn and, clearly, has pulled some pleasant memories out of me.
