Description The Pont Flavien near Saint-Chamas (southern France). The Via Iulia Augusta crosses the Touloubre at this point, passing through triumphal arches on either side. It's name, "Flavian" does not come from the Flavian Dynasty which ruled Rome in the last quarter of the 1st century, but from the builder L. Donnius Flavos, a Flamen (priest) of Augustus and Rome, who had it erected by testament. The bridge was most likely built along with the Via Iulia Augusta between 20 and 10 B.C. The arch had to be rebuilt twice, once when it collapsed in the 18th century, and one when it was hit in succession by a German tank and an American truck in 1945.

Length: 21.4 metres (70 ft)
Width: 6.2 metres (20 ft)
