Description Size: 16 x 20 inches
Media: Oil on canvas
Date: Spring 2003

A self portrait painting for my freshman painting class. It was painted from life and it was the first long term portrait that I had done, taking a couple weeks. I'm wearing my Rusted Root shirt in it I loved picking out the random greens and purples and blues in my face. I'm very pleased with the painting except for the eye on the right, it' kinda wierdly placed. But for my first self portrait painting I think it's good. I chose the Rusted Root shirt to wear because of course I love them and also it helped the color scheme for this to look nice with my other self portrait and my Botticelli still life, both of which are later on in this gallery. This got hung in the lobby during the end of the year show, along with my crazy hair portraits

very cool...the colors by themselves have an almost loose impressionist-y feel, but all the blocks of color are so well defined...almost looks chisled And, yeah...PDA for ya forst self portrait painting

hey thanks, i'm glad that's what you thought of the texture/style bc that's exactly what i wanted oh and this wasn't my first self portrait painting, it's the first one i've done that was of my whole body and lifesize, so it's by far the biggest i've ever painted. i wish i painted this well when i did my first self portrait painting!

Amazing, truly amazing. All I can say is keep it up. If you could spare any time at all to look at any of my 14 oil painting deviations I have here, it would be hugely appreciated. Any comments would be fantastic. Thanks in advance.

I think you would really like this one - [link]

most impressive man. This kind of stuff makes me never want my work from forsh year to ever see the light of day ESPECIALLY my water colors. Damn if my sound stuff sounds like my paintings I'm in trouble. Great work by the way. I love the rendering of the light. And I know exactly where you painted it. Which I think makes it a very sucessful painting. Great job!
