WOW, THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS PREHISTORIC ANIMALS (NOT DINOSAURS),
EVEN FILMS AND VIDEO GAMES HAVE BEEN MADE OF THIS ANIMAL, THE MEGALODON, ONE OF MY FAVORITE PREHISTORIC FISH!!!
The largest carnivorous fish known to have inhabited the sea is Carcharodon megalodon.
Based on the discovery of huge fossil teeth, scientists believe that the megalodon (meaning giant tooth)
was an enormous shark that could have been as long as 60 feet (17 m) or more (almost twice as long as a great white shark).
These giant teeth are up to 6.5 inches (17 cm) long, the size of a person's hand.
Recent research has suggested that their similarity to Great White teeth may be more superficial than previously thought,
and the two species may have differed considerably in their attack behaviour.
This creature is generally referred to as a 'prehistoric' relative of the Great White,
and assumptions about its appearance are based on this link.
Vito Bertucci, a diver who reportedly spent 20 years acquiring a complete set of megalodon teeth (182 teeth),
has reconstructed what are considered to be the largest jaws in the ocean.
It is believed that these jaws could open six feet (1.8 m) wide and seven feet (2.1 m) high.
