Chiffon Swirl shifted nervously behind the counter of Sugarcube Corner. She kept glancing nervously at the door. What was there to be worried about? She was just reuniting with her best friend/past lover who she had been avoiding for three months because she was pregnant with her child. No big deal!

Chiffon absentmindedly pushed around a container of sprinkles as her mind wandered to how fast everything had happened. She thought about less than a year ago, Pear and her were a couple, Chiffon being head over heels, but Pear being much more casual about the relationship. Of course, Pear reassured her when they broke up, they would always be best friends. Chiffon subconsciously put a hoof to her protruding belly when she thought about how 6 months ago they had one final night together as a couple.

Every event following happened so quickly, Chiffon could barely even remember the details (then again, maybe she was blocking some of them out). Chiffon discovering she was pregnant. Pear Butter and Bright Mac secretly dating. Chiffon going to tell Pear that she was pregnant, but discovering the love affair in the process (she made the decision in that moment that she wouldn't tell Pear; Pear clearly had enough going on, she didn't need a child reveal right now).

Chiffon attending Pear and Mac's wedding, worrying that she's starting to show, dodging any concerned questions from Pear when she hits bouts of morning sickness. Once she started showing, she began avoiding Sweet Apple Acres at all costs. Pear visited Sugarcube Corner, but Chiffon always stayed behind the counter and made excuses. She hated pushing her friend away, but what other choice did she have?

Pear Butter was married to Bright Mac. Pear Butter was in love with Bright Mac. Chiffon Swirl was single. Chiffon Swirl was loved Pear Butter. (She refused to say in love).

The blue pony jumped, torn from her thoughts, when she heard the ding of the entrance bell. She looked up and saw the mare that hadn't left her thoughts for months. The mare that had demanded that they talk today. Pear Butter was practically glowing as she greeted Chiffon with a bright, "Chiffon Swirl! Ain't you a sight for sore eyes! I have big news!"

Chiffon smiled at her old friend, a familiar warmth engulfing her. She honestly hadn't quite registered what Pear Butter had said to her.

"Pear Butter, I missed you. How have you been?" She purposely avoided asking about Pear's husband.

Pear grinned wider. "Well, actually, like I said, I have big news! Chiffon Swirl."

"Pear Butter." Chiffon teased.

"I am...well Bright Macintosh and I-I mean," Pear giggled. "Oh gosh, I have my hoof in my mouth today! Chiffon, I'm pregnant! Bright Mac and I are going to have a baby! The doctor says we're only about a month or so in, but it's enough! Oh my lands, Chiffon can you believe it? I mean it seems like just yesterday-"

Chiffon didn't hear anything after the word - that dreaded word that had haunted her for months. Pregnant. She smiled at Pear, who was rambling on. She began giggling, and then it quickly became a deep laugh, almost maniacal. Her laughter began to mix with sobs as tears started streaming. Pear stopped talking, staring intently at Chiffon.

"Chiffon? Chiffon Swirl? What's wrong? What's happening?" Pear searched Chiffon's eyes for any hint at what was going through her mind. "Swirly, talk to me. Please. I know it's weird because you and I dated for a while....is that what this is about? Swirly if I did anything to hurt you-"

Chiffon raised her hoof, gesturing for Pear to stop talking. She breathed deeply, tears still flowing, but cackle-sobs no longer inhibiting her. Chiffon looked Pear in the eyes. She found the pony she had loved, forever caring and compassionate. Chiffon took another deep breath and stepped around the counter, shifting slightly as Pear Butter took in her sight.

"Chiffon," Pear said after a few moments, a tear slowly emerging. "Are you-"

"Pregnant?" Chiffon managed a smile. "Yes. I'm about 6 months pregnant, Pear Butter."

"And..." Pear gazed blankly, clearly doing the math in her head. "And, it's my baby. Our baby."

Chiffon nodded.

"You've been pregnant with my baby. I'm now pregnant with Bright Mac's baby..." Pear mumbled to herself, putting all the pieces together. "Well if this ain't just icing on the cake. You never told me. You weren't going to tell me, were you?"

"I was, honest. But the day I came to tell you was when I discovered you and Bright Mac. And after that, everything happened so fast and your life was so dramatic...I just figured I'd deal with it."

"Well, I can't tell Bright Mac." Chiffon nodded in understanding. "His mother's already barely accepted me as is. If anyone in the family finds out I have an illegitimate child...."

"I know," Chiffon reassured her. "I'm not asking for anything from you. My family has been very supportive, and the business is doing well, so money isn't a problem. All I want is the baby to be healthy and happy. And you to still be in my life."

Pear touched her forehead to Chiffon's. "Of course I still want to be in your life. And please, any support you need, I'll find a way to provide it. No matter what. I want to be here for you. And honestly? I'm probably more excited than I should be. It will be....difficult if the Apples find out. But we'll figure it out! Together. Okay?"

Chiffon nuzzled Pear Butter gently. "Together. But...I don't think the baby should know that you're technically their mother." Pear's face dropped. "Pear, I'm sorry, but it's just too risky. If you can find a way to explain this to the Apples, then I'm all for Mama Pear Butter. But..."

Pear Butter nodded slowly. "I know. We'll figure it out. Maybe I can just be like, a cool aunt? And maybe when the foal is older...We can tell them together?"

Chiffon Swirl contemplated for a moment, then nodded, finally smiling for real. Pear smiled back.

"Oh! Swirly, do you know the sex yet?"

"Girl," Chiffon grinned. "We're having a little filly."

Pear Butter smiled even wider. "Have you thought about names?"

"Well, I'm not sure yet. I've had a lot of ideas. I think that my favorite I came up with was Cookie Butter. In honor of you, Pear Butter."

"Cookie Butter," Pear repeated. "Cookie Butter. I love it, Chiffon Swirl. And I love you."

"I love you too, Pear Butter," Chiffon replied sadly. They both knew that their I love yous were different, but they embraced each other with equal warmth.

sorry for the length! but i really love this pairing a lot, so I wanted to include it in some way in chivalryverse (without yknow, destroying the apple siblings' existence)

the timing was so hard to work out but I don't think they ever said how long pear butter and bright mac were together before they got married. if they did then we'll just assume this went faster.

chiffon still marries mr. cake, very close after the time pear butter and bright mac die. more of their story will be included in Cookie Butter's bio, but this was too much background to include in her bio, so I wrote :3 hope y'all enjoy my weird love for this weird ship

also I know pear shouldn't be showing signs of pregnancy so early but shush it's fine
