Description
A G4 custom of my favorite G1 pony: Starshine. My bait was "Sunny Rays". There's a white G4 pegasus out there, but I would have had to order one. The body and eyes were painted with Blick Studios acrylics -- did you know that when acrylic is dry, you can sand it smooth? That was a lifesaver. So she's got about five coats of that plus a matte varnish.
The cutie mark is PearlEx "Sparkle Gold", which is a powder, mixed into Blick Studios matte medium. I threw in some "Mirror Mirror" microfine glitter, which is what gave it that texture. If I'd been thinking, I would have put the glitter on last, so it would be properly glittery. Still, I like the effect.
The hair is MLP nylon hair from Dollyhair.com: "Heartthrob" (pink), "Golden Delicious" (yellow), "Lucky Clover" (green), and "Atomic Turquoise" (blue). I'm a little dubious about the pink. I realize that Vintage Starshine's hair may be faded. On the other hand, the original pink is noticeably warmer than the new, and the pink streak is the only one that's off. The yellows are very close, and the greens and blues are identical.
I kind of love the early 80s mane-style on the G4 toy. It's a little sassy.
In all, I'm very pleased with how she turned out!

Thank you!
Starshine is just such a lovely pony. I've done several pictures of her in my gallery.

She's so tiny in comparison! :0 <3
Very nice job. I've always wanted to do a G4 custom of one of the rainbow-maned G1 ponies.

The size difference is weird, isn't it? Most things seem smaller when you grow up, but in this case: totally not imagining things.
And okay, maybe the G1s were slightly too large for little hands. Playing with them could be clumsy. But how is a person supposed to brush the hair or make clothes for those teeny-tiny G4 toys?

I totally agree... although I do love the simple shape of G4's. If the normal ponies were the size of the "fashion style" ponies they would be perfect, IMO.

Awww, she looks adorable!
I think I actually owned the G1 Starshine as a kid. I seem to remember the sunshine mark on a Rainbow Pony, anyway. Seemed like the sun was starting to come off a bit, though.

Thank you!
Yeah, the glitter rubbed off easily. I just got a Moondancer off eBay and the moon in the center of her mark is entirely gone.

Oh, yeah. I do remember that happening to my Moondancer for sure.

why have you repainted the eyes? there is actually no need to
but well done. I would buy her if she was released in shops.

I repainted the eyes so they would be closer to the right color, and so they would have shape that I wanted.
I'm glad you like her!

She's gorgeous! ...and almost suspiciously similar to Celestia, actually.

Yeah, when I first saw Celestia, all I could think was, "She looks like Starshine!" Other Deviants have thought the same.
