Also, I have heard that grayscale is very difficult to work in, but you have several pieces like this, you use white brilliantly for emotion and lighting.

first, use a difuse rounded brush. Apply without movement. In other layer, with the same brush but in a lower size, trace a horizontal lines, and apply the horizontal motion blur filter in photoshop. After filter, you can adjust the opacity on layers box to get a better result.
