Thanks for the tips! But one question though: How will blood look on black fur? That confused me for ages

Hm. I can't remember if I saw blood on black fur before. Unless it was open wound so you can see red quite well. I'd imagine it would add just a hue of dark ref, and mostly make the fur sticky/wet depending on the amount. In the bright light it could catch some more red as well.

If you're brave enough you can always try look for references.

Hope it helps.

Open wounds are pretty obvious. I agree with making the fur wet/sticky, because the red doesn't really show through the black fur. References are sort of hard to find, but thanks for helping!

If you don't wanna find dead things, maybe try black wolves or bears eating. Kinda like lions are stained red from eating.

I actually don't mind dead things though, but alright

Its also good to keep in mind that blood can be completly different colors coming from different areas of the animal/human, and different amounts.

Like shoot something in the eye and the blood will be BRIGHT red not much dark at all and will bleed and bleed and bleed much more than you'd think was possible. Cut a vain and you will bleed a little; however, cut an artery and you might bleed to death. The blood just leaving you heard is super dark.

It's funny how some people think blood is like a sprinkler. I know personally it does not spray, at all, even when you slit the neck of an animal, it doesn't spray.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sythgara In reply to WhiteCroe [2013-02-18 21:03:23 +0000 UTC]

It's a bit different if you have the force from.. A sword slashing let's say. But from the body itself? Not so much

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WhiteCroe In reply to Sythgara [2013-02-18 22:03:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but most people don't go swinging swords around X(

Black-Tiger-of-Evil [2013-02-18 15:44:57 +0000 UTC]

Very helpful, but is it supposed to say green instead of red at the very beginning?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sythgara In reply to Black-Tiger-of-Evil [2013-02-18 15:48:42 +0000 UTC]

oh shoot, you're right. i'll fix that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Black-Tiger-of-Evil In reply to Sythgara [2013-02-18 16:10:51 +0000 UTC]

It's okay, I've done things like that before. That's why before I make my next tutorial, I'm typing the whole thing out in a word document first and rereading before I put it in a text box for Photoshop (odd how it doesn't have spellcheck in it).

I know right? Guess 2 proof reads aren't enough sometimes.

Black-Tiger-of-Evil In reply to Sythgara [2013-02-18 16:19:53 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Does the way you draw wounds also work if it is on top of fur? You would get rid of the fur around the area, and still draw it the way you did in this tutorial right?

If there's one thing I have problems drawing, it's blood. But this simplified it nicely, and I love seeing the real-world counterpart so it's broken down nicely.

I should give this method a try!

any suggestions for how to make the drippy blood and rivulets looks better?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sythgara In reply to wwandv [2013-02-18 14:16:55 +0000 UTC]

Hm. But hard to just explain. If you can i would advise buying a tube of fake blood and play around with it. It has that thicker consistency. I used the same thing here.
