T-3000 β€” Snowdrop Alternate Ending

Description And thus, winter sucked for the rest of time

Snowdrop sure didn't SEE that coming (Get it? 'cause she's blind and... never mind)
So I liked Snowdrop it was cute and sad (though I felt Snowdrop's speech about winter was a bit long and repetitive, and I never got that feeling that she was blind, still good though)

I originally wrote the Doctor and Derpy bathroom joke for another comic, but I felt it fit in better here
And originally this was going to be a comic about how long and repetitive Snowdrop's "Winter is important" speech was, but I changed it

One of the most stupid jokes I've ever seen. No, seriously, without any fanaticism about the animation itself, only a retard will laugh at it, no matter in what comic used. I can't imagine myself a really funny usage of it.

"though I felt Snowdrop's speech about winter was a bit long and repetitive"
wat
I know that people have different points of view, but I just don't get how it could be "too long and repetitive". It was interesting to listen to, I have to admit.

"Its like the creators were just running through a list of how to make her more sad."
[link]
It wasn't intended to be sad. Surprisingly, isn't it? I agree with authors: why everyone thinks that the whole story was intended to be sad? Fandom is such a fandom, it will always choose its own way how things should go. Not to mention that it's damn annoying to see comments about how sad the story was under EVERY Snowdrop picture.

(Now I know you're not supposed to feed the trolls, but I'll do it anyway)

Her speech was her rambeling on for like a minute and a half of "Winter needs to be happy! Winter is important! Winter is beautiful!" I know it was heartfelt speech, but come on we get it... can we please move on

Just because it wasn't intended to be sad doesn't mean it wasn't

"Dude, it's a joke, lighten up T_T"
Jokes can be retarded, and retarded jokes are flammable, deal with it.

"(Now I know you're not supposed to feed the trolls, but I'll do it anyway)"
( lol)

"Her speech was her rambeling on for like a minute and a half of "Winter needs to be happy! Winter is important! Winter is beautiful!" I know it was heartfelt speech, but come on we get it... can we please move on"
wat x2
Do you know the difference between just claiming something with no any logical reason (like "Winter needs to be happy! Winter is important! Winter is beautiful!" BS you wrote) and explaining an opinion? I bet you not. Her speech was simply nervous, but wouldn't you act nervous when you are talking to the dynasts and no one takes you seriously at the same time? She is not an emotionless robot.

"Just because it wasn't intended to be sad doesn't mean it wasn't"
As for me, it wasn't sad at all. At first I thought that's just because I'm doing something wrong (as always, lol).
But it really was heart-touching nonetheless.

You're absolutely right- you CANNOT just say something and leave it.

In a fic.

In an 'episode' of a show, that lasts a total of 22~ minutes? You need to be economic. Imagine if, instead of saying 'okay, I've got a plan, do this' in any show ever, they spent a minute and a half discussing every step- as you would in real life, because not discussing every step invites murphy into your house. But what would it do? It would make the show BORING.

If it's a story you've writen down, sure, have long, rambling speeches, because people are there to read- it's a very different atmosphere. The atmosphere they created is very different from what they should have, and a fair chunk of the episode was just bad.

Hell, there's a two minute long poem at the very start. That's like the biggest no-no of them all. Those first two minutes are for- introducing the characters, explaining the conflict(And why it's important!), and drawing the character in. If you watch the actual show, you see great examples of this.

"Nightmare Moon is going to be released and no one believes me!"
"Discord is free and is causing chaos!"
"Applejack has to buck the whole field and can't handle it on her own!"
etc etc etc ETC

Hell, Double Rainboom didn't have half the story that Snowdrop did, but I still preferred it because A) it didn't take itself as seriously, accepting that it would have deficiencies, and B) it had good time use. Those are literally the only things it had on snowdrop(well, except some good humour), and yet it was still much, much better.

I'm rambling now(and have been for a while), so I guess I'm done.

Sil-Forty In reply to joural [2013-04-22 08:16:58 +0000 UTC]

I haven't watched "Double Rainbow", because I'm honestly tired of mane6 and other popular canon characters (alicorn Twilight is a small exception, because something new), so I can't compare. Plus I can't guess what gave you an urge to write this post and what you really meant by it, especially by "how story should be told" part (hurr durr, imma Russian, English is not my native language), so I don't really know what to answer you.

What can I say about "Snowdrop", is that it didn't really catch to the 22~ min. limit (and I highly doubt SFS had any time length limits for the animation), plus it was concentrated on the story way TOO MUCH. Some fillers (more scenes at school, scenes in Snowdrop's home, etc.) would be nice. Instead, it explains us the conflict after a small intro, and then moves us straightly to the story's culmination That was too fast, I think, including the time gap between "classroom" and "on a cloud" scenes.
They had 7 minutes for more scenes, why they didn't make them (was there a release time deadline, or just laziness... I'm no telepathic, I can't tell) - I still wonder.

I know this message of yours is old, but I had to say that's a surprisingly good analysis of why Snowdrop needed an editor or beta-reader.

I didn't quite know why all the parts except the end felt wrong, but I think you're right in that it needed a lot more filler material. It also needed more stuff to make Snowdrop seem more three dimensional, like maybe a scene with her and a friend, or maybe something that showed you why she's blind and how she goes about her daily routines. It would have made the character more believable and less of an after school special.

But the last part did make me sad, when Celestia and Luna are hesitant to let the last (and first) snowflake fall to earth. It really had a lot more character and was far more interesting than the previous ten minutes or so. It was also less about memories and more about Luna to me. She never felt anyone appreciated her night except Snowdrop, and it made me feel for her.

I know I'll probably catch some flak for not worshipping Snowdrop, but this needs to be said. And I do like the short film. I just felt it could have been so much better.

BTW, I think you should check out Double Rainboom. It's not really that bad, and is fresh enough to make it worth your while I think.

Dude, she died at the end and Luna never even got to say goodbye, then they used the very last of her snowflakes to start Winter that year, how is that not sad?

"Let's just agree to disagree; I found the speech to boring, you found it interesting, why fight over it"
"Interesting" is a wrong word. I'd rather say that it has more sense than you claim.

"Dude, she died at the end and Luna never even got to say goodbye, then they used the very last of her snowflakes to start Winter that year, how is that not sad?"
Maybe I'm too good at psychology to cry out loud on that moment (keeping someone's belongings to save memory of him/her is not a good idea (and why do that when you still can carry the memory of someone without any belongings?), especially when it's owner didn't want that; you should live on and not blame yourself for mistakes you ever did, otherwise your life can turn into endless depression (that's one of the ways to insanity and suicide, by the way))... Or maybe that's because this kind of story is familiar to me. Ever heard of Shadow the hedgehog (one of the main characters of Sonic Adventure 2) and his story? He lost his best friend, Maria Robotnik, while escaping from GUN soldiers. She never wanted him to regret that and wanted him to live on and still help people; that were her last words... which Shadow forgot due to amnesia. Google for more details. That story also proves my words about psychology-related stuff.

It wasn't the kind of sad that makes you cry, just the kind of saw thay makes you go "aww "

Well what would you do if you were Luna and you found out the only person who truely understood you died, which you weren't able to be for or do anything about, and the only thing left from her was that one Snowflake
I know I would want to keep the snowflake

Yes I know Shadow, SA2 is one of my all time favorite Sonic Games

Oh, now I get it. Kind of same story happened when I was playing Metal Gear Solid when I was kid (rated as "mature"? this is Russia, no one cares here). When I completed the game for the first time, I've got the "B" ending (where one of main game's characters, Meryl, dies; there is also "A" ending where she survives). The whole ending was meant to just bring some sad emotions, but I cried instead.

"Well what would you do if you were Luna and you found out the only person who truely understood you died, which you weren't able to be for or do anything about, and the only thing left from her was that one Snowflake"
I'd still start the winter with it. I've already explained why, I'm bad at positioning. And didn't Snowdrop wanted her snowflake to fall like other ones? I'm pretty sure that was her last wish.

"Yes I know Shadow, SA2 is one of my all time favorite Sonic Games"
The whole "Goodbye" scene is the same story, just in another decorations.

Ugh, everyone is in love with Snowdrop. The whole episode took a normal filly and made it as sad as possible.

Its like the creators were just running through a list of how to make her more sad.

A: "Snowdrop is a filly who is trying to find her purpose."
B: "No, not SAD enough."

A: "Okay, she's picked on by her classmates in school."
B: "NO! Still not SAD enough."

A: "Fine, her teacher has no heart, and shows it by ensuring Snowdrop is singled out and makes her walk home alone in the middle of a blizzard."
B: "SADDER!"

A: "Lets take away her eyesight, make her BLIND, AND THEN she is forced to walk home in a blizzard."
B: "IT'S JUST NOT SAD ENOUGH!!!"

A: "Snowdrop is also an orphan!"
B: "I'm not crying yet!!!"

A: "We throw in a scene of her sister explaining how AWESOME it is to be able to see the stars at night, making Snowdrop feel even MORE left out because she's BLIND."
B: "Your not even trying anymore."

A: "No one understands her SUPER SNOWFLAKE talent!"
B: "Almost got it."

A: "Snowdrop DIES at the end."
B: "Little more..."

A: "Snowdrop DIES of AIDS."
B: "Brilliant! Inform the animation team!"

Sometimes I think that I'm really unique... this is one of those moments.

Being blind, being bullied for being different (like I was, before I changed school)... that's not sad. This is reality for some people... Overly sad... OVERLY SAD MY @$$. REALITY. THIS IS WHAT REALLY SAD. Greedy politicians, completely ignorant people on streets who would never give a single damn about you even if you was just robbed or being raped by maniac, teens killing themselves with alcohol and nicotine just because "dat's k00l and mature", terrorists killing innocent people because of political crap or just for some money, dying people that wait for an ambulance for goddamn 1,5 hours and not being served in hospitals because of "no money"... THAT'S WHAT REALLY SAD, NOT SOME 14-MINUTE ANIMATION. Like someone really wise said, "when someone dies - this is tragedy; when millions die - this is statistic"... damn, I'm already being too rude, sorry. Just take these words easy, I'm not in a good mood right now.
Just tell me, WHY EVERYONE thinks that Snowdrop's story is sad?

"Its sad story with no story."
Words cannot describe... nevermind.
There is a story, a story about how a blind pegasus filly invented snowflakes. I don't get why you didn't pay attention to it. This is really a heart-touching story, one of the best stories after all, but HOW WAS IT SAID, I DON'T EVEN
