Description Found the scanned image of the LeMat Desade sketch. Original is now hard to get to as I squirrelled it away in my safety deposit box.

Its for a low budget horror flick a friend is working on. He made a comment about needing a signature weapon for one of the main characters, something unique and brutal looking. Thought a LeMat with a gigantic blade underneath it would fit the bill. He liked both the name, and the drawing as-is and it was incorporated. So, this is how [link] will look like in the end. The blade will have the look of heavy use, but be in good shape. Didnt want anything shiny, want it more dulled by age.

Anyway, name and design is copyrighted to me. Cant wait to built the actual prop.

There is something to be said for civil war pistols. They have big bores and fire large slugs, though you arent as likely to die from a single shot as with modern weaponry. Perfect for use in a horror film.
Best way to practice gun designs is to look at actual weapons and go from there. Picking up a gun catalog or magazine is a good place to start.

Well, I may get one for her; some of my characters (including my Thylacine) tend to use guns, so she really needs to work on them. And yes, this thing WOULD be awesome in a horror film XD

There is a working reproduction one available through [link] Its $700, very good price for one. I have a thing for black powder weaponry, and have considered saving up to buy one. You can also find stage prop replicas (non-firing) for about $75 through various historical reinactment suppliers online & thats what I currently own.

They had something very similar among the parisian street gangs of the 19th C... They called it "An Apache Pistol" Same root concept as "Apache Dancing"... that routine where the woman is slung and tossed around roughly? The street toughs, knowing little to nothing of North American Indian society or culture took thier names as a moniker to demonstrate how tough they were. Apache pistols were used in street brawls, and combined several weapons, usually a small-caliber revolver with a mini-bayonet and sometimes the pistol grip would incorporate a set of brass knuckles... This versian does look rather interesting!

Yep the 'Apache pistol' one of the weapons I looked into when working on this. Was checking out alot of the gun-sword/dagger devices to see how actual weapons would appear. Even found a couple gun-warhammer/axe weapons. Amazing how impractical some were, but they are all fairly terrifying to face down.

But, I remain doubtful as to how effective my "LeMat Desade" would be in actual combat. Going to be severely unbalanced and not a pleasure to fire off. Not to mention how long it would take to reload...
