Since certain choice genetic traits are dominant and extremely sought after by the variety of monsters in the story, monster's genes and their shapeshifting powers (and their resulting appearance) are largely what people judge them on.
The clowns, who believe that judging someone based on their appearance/genes is stupid, completely cover themselves with loose, colorful clothing and disguise things about themselves that would be distinctive: horns, tails, wings, claws- and most importantly faces, which are covered with masks. Some even disguise their voices or don't speak entirely.
