Description As some of you have seen previously, I have created a concept for an Eldar Aspect Warrior Shrine. I call them the Grey Ghosts. They utilize psychic pike, meant to be a ranged weapon, though it can be used in close combat to a limited degree as well. They have on their back a psychic collector on their back.

They are meant to emulate the aspect of those ghosts who fought by Khaine's side and the dead Eldar who return to the sides of their kin as Wraiths to wage war again. They are slow, heavily armored, purposeful, and possess a powerful soul.

This particular illustration is just to help me create a PDF that looks like your standard Codex entry. Why? Why not? It seemed like a cool idea at the time.

Did you get anywhere with these models Tacticangel?

I actually did finish the most of a few of them (torso + head + legs + upper arms) but didn't actually finish them. I kind of started to feel like 40k had left me behind, which isn't really 40k's fault.

Nah, Games Workshop has left us all behind, which is why the fans have to stay together and continue creating our vision of 40k. Even if they don't line up at all, a more colorful and diverse universe is better then blarg.

Honestly? I could totally see these guys fighting alongside some squads of Wraithguard and Wraithblades, in a sort of heavy shock trooper role. This is an awesome idea, their similarity to Shadow Spectres completely withstanding. Because while the Spectres are skimmer infantry and thus more mobile, these guys are heavy foot infantry.

They can be further distinguished by the fact that they may very well have their own fighting styles and armor. Plus, who says that they can't use a similar weapons system as the Spectres? They fill a different battlefield role then the Spectres would in my honest opinion.

I have been told that these predate the Shadow Spectres, which I take as something of a compliment.Β

As a matter of fact they do actually, from all my research. I was merely stating that there is no reason they cannot co-exist. That being said I vastly prefer the Gray Ghosts. I've actually taken the liberty of integrating them into my own Eldar force, Maiden World Anaris (name means Dawnlight in Eldar).

That's cool. I wasn't trying to be argumentative. I just didn't want to appear unoriginal.

I remember the creating stuffs words on the last page of second edition basic rule book: Build whatever you want, make the galaxy more colorfull and balance it fair - everything is allowed.

And a marouding horde of GW political comissars who raid conventions and flame about every player who even change the slightest bit of even the color schemes....

I think WH40K really need new inspirations, specially the player-side kind that not is 150% as hard as the former just to sell more books and figures -.-

"It seemed like a cool idea at the time"....That's really all the reason you need to on a drawing spree......

...So do these guys come with some concealed close combat weapons or is their armour thick and its inner workings strong enough to give them a significant edge in close combat, particularly when they are forced to do it hand to hand style?

Haha! Some months later GW releases some lore about the Shadow Spectres, aspect of the eternal warrior. They are basically this, but with a jump pack!

Are you sure GW doesn't have any spies among your closest friends?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tacticangel In reply to Baveboi [2012-10-29 22:49:21 +0000 UTC]

Well that makes sense. I would encourage GW to spy on me though. I have good ideas. Granted, like so many gamers, I would prefer they paid to watch or listen to me instead.

Actually, I had forgotten about these, but I can't see how they weren't an inspiration for the Shadow Spectres. That just can't be a coincidence. Did you design make the pikes before or after they released the new Fire Prism?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tacticangel In reply to Armel [2013-07-08 21:59:07 +0000 UTC]

I think it was between the new Fire Prism (not sure) and the jet-pack heavies Forgeworld came out with. I remember being told GW had ripped me off, which I didn't really see, had no interest in pursuing, and sometimes I feel would be a good design direction for them to consider.

Plus, always love the pipe dream that they might want to hire me. I imagine that would ruin that 0.01% chance.

Cool idea. Maybe you could get these guys from ForgeWorld and convert them. It's pretty close and wouldn't take too much work.

I'm actually making some models for them in an attempt to practice both sculpting (which I am totally new at) and casting.

Would you mind if I built some grey ghosts and posted them? I have a lot of spare guardians and several dark elf lances from the cold one knights kit, that and a little green stuff might be easier than sculpting the models from scratch.

Please do. I would love to see them. I would be very interested to see what you come up with!

I read the rules for the Grey Ghost on another sight, seems really cool. The concept of Eldar actually embracing death, and the wraithbone escape it offers, adds a new angle to the Eldar race as a whole. Instead of simply waiting to die, there are those who strive forwards.

I have been working on my own aspect shrine, having trouble coming up with a name though. They are skyboard riding aspect warriors. Armed with triskeles and normal 4+ aspect warrior armour. They are spiritaully similiar to both helions and rangers, their wild spirits.

Awesome sauce ^^ I'll make sure to download the final pdf. Have you decided on points cost?
I'll see if I can't convert a small squad once my current models are done painting (that's still a long way of: I need to paint one tank, several turret options, harlies, hawks and an autarch).

I will be following up with models, custom sculpts. They aren't GW standards, but maybe 80% as nifty.
