Description You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open this file, as it's a PDF. You can download it here .

Please, if you or Download, please leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Here is a tutorial that I've meant to do for a while now, but really pushed to have finished before school started.

This is basically how I draft my kimono/yukata and faki-mono outfits (flip through my gallery for examples of some of them). A lot of people seem to have problems with them, and I had a lot of requests for this tutorial, so I hope you all appreciate the 8 hours it took to do this (and in a PDF, no less!)

This is really detailed, so that if you're new to sewing, you can follow it! If ~kellin could follow it, I have no doubt anyone can do this! So give it a try!!

I tried to document every step that you need to do as clearly as possible, so you shouldn't get lost! With lots and lots of technical illustrations!

You may also find my Pre Tied Obi Tutorial [link] useful in addition to this one, so check it out!

I think there could still be a few spelling/gramatical errors floating in this, so I'm sorry about those! Also, this is the first time I've made a PDF, so please be kind and let me know if there are any issues - I've checked and re-checked it through, but if I did something weird, please let me know. I'm still new to using InDesign (most of the work was done in Illustrator) so there may be some issues there

I would ask that you do not sell anything you make with this tutorial. I know that there isn't a way to enforce this, so I'm appealing to your conscience.

Any questions? Just ask! I'm always glad to answer!

If you make something from this tutorial, throw me a link so I can see! That's the reason why I do tutorials, to see what other people can come up with!!

when i get farther in my sewing projects i'll use your tutorial since i've been looking for a yukata/kimono tutorial to cut it down to shirt size.

I have no idea, then, why it would be doing that ^^ Do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader, or some other PDF reader? And, it is quite a big file, so it may actually be downloading for a long time (depending on how fast the dA servers are, and your connection, and all of that good stuff~)

Oh noes! It seems like a lot of people have started having problems with it lately... I wonder if dA changed something, cuz I haven't

You need Adobe Acrobat Reader, or something else that can open up PDF files... other than that, I don't know why it would stop working ~ I'll see if I can figure something out ^^

I always find your tutorials really helpful and easy to follow.
I tried making a wa-loli outfit following this tutorial and your circle skirt tutorial. I would really appreciate it if you looked through my gallery and checked them out.

Amazingly helpful. And the step by step instructions make it so much easier to understand.

A quick question - would you use this pattern when making the kimono top-half of a Shinigami outfit? (Bleach version of Shinigami, I mean. )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

taeliac In reply to MasterHarper [2009-06-24 22:23:05 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad to be of help! And, yes! This is basically what I do for Shinigami outfits (from Bleach) - you just need to do a bit of a different assembly if you want the sleeves left open on the side (or, you can sew it up and just use a seam ripper to open the under arms, and top stitch it down :3)

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm doing lots of research for a project that I want to complete, and so far this has been the most helpful with the actual practical aspects of it. Now, you asked that anything made using this tutorial not be sold, but I am planning on entering a contest with a scholarship prize (specifically the Stuck at Prom contest found here: [link] ). Is this okay? Again, thank you.

taeliac In reply to Sophia-Jonquille [2009-06-13 20:17:17 +0000 UTC]

Oh! That is perfectly fine! I just get worried that people will take them and mass produce them for conventions (I fear it's already happened, though *sigh*) and stuff like that, but that is perfectly fine for you to do I wish you so much luck in that, it's such a cool idea! I wish something like that contest had been around when I was in High School (although I didn't like sewing back then)

Much luck! If I can help at all, let me know! I'll be more than happy to give you tips if you get stuck with something

You most definitely should!! This is really easy to do, and really versatile, too, if you just change lengths up and stuff like that, you can do a ton of very modern clothing bits, too

I'm very happy to be of help! If anything is confusing or whatnot, please just lemme know and I'll do my best to help!

And I'm going to try your circle skirt pattern as well, so I can pair the kimono top with the skirt!

Oops, I'm rattling! (happens when I get excited about something).
