Description
Well, as Halloween is coming up, I thought I would get a simple accessory tutorial up for you guys, that might help with your costume! They work wonderfully as a substitute (or cute accessory) for a school uniform, they also work for a kitty outfit, most Lolita outfits (please note: this might not be quite "in fashion" now, or readily accepted by the EGL community - do some research first so no one says anything :3), and stuff like that. Also, if you substitute a few measurements, they work wonderfully for arm warmers as well!I had Illustrator open for working on those Sew Village characters, so I did this one in Illustrator - changed the uploaded image from a PNG to a JPG, hopefully, it looks nicer now...
Anywho, a simple tutorial for how I make my leg warmers. They're usually made of fleece or knit, but if you're making it out of a non-knit fabric, read the note at the top about adding extra.
I hope this helps you all out a bit! Happy (early) Halloween

I used the pattern for a human version of Epona from Legend of Zelda. They worked out perfectly! Thanks for adding the note in the pattern about making the pattern bigger for non-stretchy fabric--the faux fur I used was pretty stiff but the end result looked great.

If I don't want them to flare as much, should I just add less 'length' to the bottom (step 2)? And if I want them to bunch slightly at my shoe, should I add more length from my knee to the floor? I think that should work, but I'm not quite sure...

Yeppers!! If you don't want as much flare on them, just don't add it :3
And, if you want them to bunch on your shoes, I would definitely say make them a bit longer, maybe 3" - 4" or so?
Definitely go with your gut, you were right on both counts!

Make the pattern out first, before sewing - you're just adding as much flare as you want it to be larger on the bottom than the top. If you try it out of paper, first, you'll understand how it works :3

Thank you! I found all sorts of exceedingly complicated tutorials for this in complicated sewing terms that I couldn't understand, but this one is nice and clear! I'll send you links to my pics when this cosplay is done!

When I started sewing, I found the same thing, and it irritated me to no end! Which is why I try to keep tutorials in as plain of language as possible (glad to hear that this one works
)
I would love to see your cosplay - what are you making these for? *ish nosy*

Thank you so much for understanding! I read about a million before I got to yours, and now I'll be making them for my friends for Christmas as well! My old geometry teacher was so proud that I finally used geometry in real life.
I'm doing Kagamine Rin from Vocaloid! Do you have any advice on how to make a sailor collar, by the way?

Yeppers!! You just may want them to flare slightly less than the leg one's, otherwise, they may be too big But, it's the same basic idea :3

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I think I may have to save this one for if I end up doing a Kallen Kozuki (Code Geass) cosplay and make her armwarmers.
Is there any way to make them a bit skinnier? Wouldn't you just have to change the measurements a bit in step 2?
