Description They say life is like a box of chocolates: you never know what to expect.  (Or some such.  I haven't seen the movie.)  But it seems to be true, because when I recently bought a big bag of assorted Lego, 97% of the parts to build this thing were in it.  This makes me happy, since I've been wanting this set for 16 years now. 6915 "Warp Wing Fighter"

And yes, that is what you think it is in the background.

I didn't even start buying Lego until these things were long gone.  The only way I've ever been able to get them was online and in garage sales and such.

that would be my first guess to get to these old boxes...

I am not entirely sure, but i think LEGO was much more creative 20 years ago than now, even whtough we have more parts and still some beautiful models.
But as said, 20 years ago they simply made up crazy stuff in crazy colors, like these insectoids!

Ahh yes, the insectoids.  Those were my first objective, and I managed to collect almost all of those sets.  Now I moved on to the UFOs like this one.    After that, I'm going for the Exploriens.

Aren't they?    Most things from that era are pretty cool.

Especially because they made stuff that you maybe could find in the real world, but their way they adapted it. And of course all the fancy scifi-stuff.
Today it is more a copy of our world translated into bricks. ..

Well, the City theme is still going strong.  Lots of real world stuff there.  It does seem though that their original sci fi themes rarely last long.  A year, two at most.  I think Alpha Team was the longest running one like that.  Exo-Force did okay too.  (Remember those?)

Also, things like the modular buildings, I actually really like.  Those things are just awesome.

Git some of the exo forces
Some of those creator-boxes were great, but i dont own any of them
Yeah, the sci fi was shortlasting, and that is nothing lego wants, they need something that keeps on selling
With the adaptions i think of the older sets like trains and stuff. They were simply something else... not something you remember but something you know.

I didn't buy any of the Exo-Force sets when they came out, but since then I've found second-hand almost all of the first year sets.
The Creator sets, I've loved since they first came out.  Of the first year ones, I've got I think five of the six, and one of them twice, and one of them three times.  As value for money goes, they are the best.

On the other hand, they do keep trying to replace their best selling lines.  They even tried to shut down Star Wars in 2006, but then they just kinda ...didn't.  The ended Bionicle in 2011(?) but after a few years of Hero Factory, we all want our Bionicle back.
Chima and Ninjago seem to be doing alright though.  So that's cool.

I just admired the creative boxes. But never got myself one.
The Exoforces were again some kind of crazy imagination like in the old days... not that boring everydays city stuff...
yeah, well star wars is a bad franchise to put down, especially since disney keeps up pumping out new movies and series...

I was kind of sad that they put down the bionicle series, but i have to admit that i did only like the first and second "stage",
But Bionicle lived on in some way under the hero factory, at least it was my impression. But right, never as good as the good old bionicle ^^

Chima and Ninjago is not really my taste, but it looks like it works out.

Taggerung1 In reply to Mineraleater [2014-10-04 20:16:13 +0000 UTC]

I agree.  Chima and Ninjago didn't really interest me, but if it works, go for it, right?

Disney will keep pumping out new movies, and that's fine with me, because they've proven that they can release like six movies in a franchise in one year, and make it still cool.  (Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and (while not Disney, still Marvel) The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.)  And that's just so far this year.

I only really followed Bionicle for the first few years, but I get that it's a cool, and really intricate series.  Fortunately for all the Bionicle fans... it's coming back.  Bionicle 2015 is a thing.

Mineraleater In reply to Taggerung1 [2014-10-04 21:08:33 +0000 UTC]

Disney has the power and the money to do such things ^^

I even have the old Bionicle movie and the video game! Loved the old series, but the newer ones were nothing for me ^^

This winter, between christmas and new year i will probably assemble all my lego sets like they were sold... no modifications, nothing. Last summer i was sorting every single brick... took the family and me 2 weeks ^^
I am not sure if i am going to sell some of the stuff... or simply keep them as collectables... maybe for my future kids? ^^

Taggerung1 In reply to Mineraleater [2014-10-04 21:52:24 +0000 UTC]

Lol, my future kids can get their own Lego.  Mine's not going anywhere unless it's over my dead body.

Ahh yes, my brother's the big Bionicle collector here, though I have most of the sets from the Mata Nui years.  Between us, we have all the movies and games (I think)

I had this set!  I loved the secret chamber under the big cannon in the middle.  I think you're missing some antennas on the sides, but aside from that, beautiful!

Taggerung1 In reply to JD-Kloosterman [2014-09-07 03:08:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it was missing a bunch of parts.  Some of the engines, landing struts, antennas... minifigs..  I got this much of it in a big assorted bag of bricks I bought the other day.

I had that set sixteen years ago. One of my first Lego sets, may have been the very first actually. Wasn't long before all the pieces were scattered about and mostly lost to the tub of miscellanious Legos.

Yeah, that can happen..  Some of my sets from back then have ended up mixed in with the random stuff.  (But I always make sure to take the best care of any I find now, from back then.)
