Description My computer didn't want me to make this tutorial. I tried SO many times. Ugh! x_x;

But here it is, sucky though it may be. It's not very thourough either, but I hope it'll help some people. Cuz goodness knows I've needed help with Sculpey before, it's such a pain if you dunno what you're doing.

I'm working on another creature design in Sculpey for a final project, this time I'll try to document all my steps on her and make a better tutorial, maybe.

Tell me what you think!

This is amazing, man! I bought my first pack of sculpey and I really want to give it a try!

Just one question - can you bake sculpey in your regular kitchen oven? Or do you need a special one? Thanks!

Either one! I think they sell specialty ovens for Sculpey...but I've always used a regular kitchen oven. You'll probably want to run the fan, though, and if it has a self-cleaning mode, run that afterwards too. (sorry it took so long to get back to you!)

wow this is super helpful! laying the armature on your sketch is such an obvious solution to the problem but it makes so much sense!

I also find it hilarious our workspaces look exactly the same same printer with the same loop of armature wire and sculpey

good to know about the lead in the wire too-I didnt know that

Fantastic!

You mentioned you did things like this for your class. What kind of class would do this? I'd love to get into it!

It was actually required for a few classes I took in college, because I attended an art school. This one in particular I did for a 3D Design class, and others I did were for Character Design and Maquette Building class. XD Lots of fun, but also lots of time and monies.

But if you have any more questions, I'd love to help you out!

Hmm, that's what I thought. May I ask to which school?
I'm just having a hard time trying to figure out where to go.
I've got one more year left of High school, then I'm out!

Savannah College of Art and Design. If you're considering a private art college, I highly suggest that one. I wouldn't give my years there back for anything! The only downside is it's incredibly expensive so now I'll be paying off student loans for...ever. But it was worth it, I think!

Yes, I've heard of that place before!
It sounds absolutely wonderful. My dream
career would be a conceptual designer/model maker
or even set design and prop design for film.
I live in Canada, and there's a few places here,
but man, the prices are quite similar. It's ridiculous!

Canada! I want to live there!
Well, there's always scholarships and student loans if you've got your heart set on something like that. You can do it!

Wow, that looks fantastic! May I ask, though, if there is a particular type of wire you used for the 'skeleton'? I'm neither very familiar with wire nor clay, so I'd be nervous about something going wrong in the baking process if you used the wrong type of wire or something. (I wouldn't want a sculpture to crack or anything because the wire inside didn't react well in the over, or something of the sort. But like I said, I don't know much about this sort of thing.)

Tai-Shou-Tsubasa In reply to Eloarei [2010-02-13 18:19:16 +0000 UTC]

I use aluminum or steel wire for the skeleton, in different gauges. Once I made the mistake of buying wire with lead in the core...IT DID NOT END WELL. D=

So make sure you don't do that. lol.

Mmm....Jurassic Park...I hated the third one, though, `cuz the T.Rex got beat up by the Spinosaurus.

But the real winners are the raptors. Yes indeed.

Goro-Fujita In reply to Tai-Shou-Tsubasa [2008-11-03 01:00:17 +0000 UTC]

Ef yeah raptors!

I also agree about the third movie. In actuality, the T.Rex would have tore the Spino up, regarless of how much bigger it was. The fact of the matter was, the T.Rex had the biggest bite force of any living land animal during that time period (the only animal to have a larger bite force being the Megalodon), plus the fact that it had a much larger mouth, as well as the bacteria poisoning. The Spino should have died or at least shown sickness in the movie.

... I really need to watch less History channel.

Mmm Jurassic Fight Club...I love that show...after watching that show I tend to want to run around making dinosaur noises.

Reee!

Every time I watch that show I kinda regret not becoming a Paleontologist. Or at least learning about paleontology.

I know about five sequential art kids who wanted to be a paleontologist at one point, myself included. lol

Too much Math, though. :/ I'd find a fossil and do the math and be like "This dinosaur is nine years old!" and the other scientists be like "that's not right..."

The math wouldn't really bother me... I just have a bigger love of drawing rather than studying extinct animals....

After taking Algebra I three times (first time failed, second time only half a credit, third time was the charm) it got easier. I actually had to help my dad and his buddy when they had to take an algebra class.
