Description
The Human Condition Collection - Part OneI took this shot with my old 1000d, one of the first shots i took. I've always wanted to do something with it, so decided to finally do an edit and see how it looks.
Statement wise, its pretty self explanatory. I think seeing the horrific shots coming from the oil spill in Louisiana, (Here's a link to some images Ive seen, [link] ) Subconsciously influenced me to start working on a collection based around pollution, human interference, etc... A lot of the themes I've already worked with. So expect more of the same. I still have never finished a collection and been satisfied with it, so hopefully this one will come together.
I'm sorry for my absence from DA as of late. I've had a lot on, and a lot of distractions. It's really irritated me since Ive just brought such an incredible camera and lens, I really need to get out with it more. But expect a lot more submissions from now on. I will be shooting a lot. Thanks for all the support. Let me know what you think.

I think you could work a bit more on composition - or letΒ΄s say it differently: your composition is very simple and quite straightforward ^^ which also can be very effective. What I like about this picture is that it feels as though it`s from the industrial era, with all itΒ΄s coal mining, iron, heavy industry, chimneys and bricks - a tad expressionistic... and then thereΒ΄s the modern-day helicopter that feels out of place, like we never left those days behind.

We are looking at something we should be thanking.
If you compare the population figures of pre-industrial revolution times and post-industrial revolution times, you'll find that they grew during the latter, which means that the industrial revolution helped increase the life expectancy of mankind. So far from being the threat it is often portrayed, a smokestack such as this has been proven to in fact be a blessing.
Also, in regards to human interference, I'll point you to the dinosaurs.

The industrial revolution is great for the instant gratification society we have now. Its great for first world western countries. Not for the poor majority of people in the world. And when global warming kicks in, everyone will grow to regret this "positive revolution".

You mean the global warming that is heavily doubted right now, that people, including scientists, are calling foul on? Oh, and if you want to see what kind of world environmentalism would lead us to, read "The Anti-Industrial Revolution". It will scare you.

Oh you doubt global warming? This debate is over. We will never agree unfortunately, so there's no point.

Hmm, not my fault I prefer to think rather than just goosestep. And bravo for demonstrating that you aren't a man of reason, so frankly, it's no loss for me not to debate with you.
And I don't give a damn if you agree or not. My goal is the truth, not your sanction.

I do like it. It represents something that is painful to me. Our industrial complex and growth which has ruined nature. Wild in my area is only preserved because some people had the fore sight to see the future. Florida used to have giant stands of Cypress forests, they literally built logging towns to harvest them in the last century. There are countless black and white photos of log filled trains. One of the victims of this consumer greed is the Ivory-billed Woodpecker which is dependent on old growth forest. There are some remnants of forest spotted here and there in peninsular Florida. I stumbled on one before I carried a camera tucked on what used to be a cattle ranchers land. I want to go back and do some photography. lol um my morning coffee makes me talkative or in this case expressive with my writing.

Exactly what I wanted to read in my comments section, thank you. I really appreciate you taking the time to write your story up like that. It is such a shame humanity is just determined to ruin its home, for what? Cheap oil and plastic junk from China. If you like, my second entry to this collection was just uploaded, take a look here [link] Thanks

Well, this shot is very dramatic. I love how you have caught the helicoper in the background to make the statement about pollution even more intense. I don't know if anyone else can see it but the flumes are kind of as a heart which, I think, makes it quite ironic. I like how it looks stained at the top as well. Very jealous about this photo (:
