Personality:
Caring | Protective | Patient | Blunt | Stubborn | Proud | Untrusting
A scarred appearance and often monotone voice may lead creatures to believe Riamh is a foul-tempered soul, when in reality this kvinde is one of most caring and protective creatures you'll ever meet. If you manage to get on her good side. She's slow to trust, but she won't hesitate to drop everything to help a Ting member in need; whether it be fighting off an unwanted guest or simply lending an ear for an upset friend. Riamh is incredibly blunt, often not seeing the point in wasting time or energy avoiding certain subjects. Her stubbornness and pride are things that have gotten her in trouble many times with her father, only causing the kvinde to become more steadfast in standing her ground. It's hard to convince Ria to change her mind on something and, even if she's wrong, she'll argue that she was in the right all along.
History:
Twin brothers, Finn and Orrin, were born of Harek and Torunn. About two years later Riamh was born, to Harek's dissatisfaction. He was a misogynistic man and Riamh was a sickly pup, so he strongly favored his two sons-- And since Torunn was a howler, she left the home to get back to her duties as soon as she could despite being resenting the way Harek neglected their daughter. Harek started training Finn and Orrin in the ways of being a guardian around this time, leaving Riamh in the care of a family friend most days.
By the time she turned two years old, Ria's health drastically improved; and was ecstatic to start learning how to fight as well, though still young. Of course, Harek refused to teach her, stating that she was to pursue a less physically intensive rank. Riamh, being the stubborn kvinde she is, declared that she was just as capable (if not more) as her brothers, though Harek dismissed any attempts she made to train with him.
In secret, Orrin and Finn decided to help Ria practice, a bit taken aback by their younger sister's fierceness in their spars. They all grew close, though Finn soon decided to go against their father's wishes, becoming a trader and taking to the sea. Orrin kept on the small tradition of sneaking himself and Ria out to the tundra every night to teach her what he learned that day.
This goes on for several months before Harek finds out. Their father was outraged that the two went behind his back, threatening punishment. Riamh challenges him to a spar, both to show off her skills and to spare Orrin from his wrath. She gets her tail handed to her and receives the signature scar on the left side of her face from this. Although Harek begrudgingly admits she does have potential, he still demands that she should become something other than a guardian.
Torunn returns from a voyage to see what happened, understandably becoming upset with her mate. Arguments ensued over the next good while, Torunn eventually deciding that she'd finally had enough of Harek's behavior and disappearing just before the ship was meant on next departed. This threw the remaining family into chaos, the three siblings blaming their father for what happened and Harek lashing out at all three in turn.
After the ordeal, Finn goes to sea once again, swearing he’d find Torunn and bring her home. At that time, Orrin had felt Riamh had learned all she could and decided to become a whaler. Ria and Harek are left to their own devices and after a particularly bad argument, she sets off on her own as well--
With a newly formed urge to better herself, Riamh leapt into the position of Guardian, pouring nearly all of her time into protecting the Ting. If she wasn’t prowling in search of predators that strayed too close to her home, she was observing shipbuilders, taking what she could learn from them to strengthen her own rarely used magic. For once in her life, all was steady and peaceful-- or as peaceful as it could get in the north.
She even debated settling down with a charming shipwright mand, who she had a pup with not long before she turned eight years old; however, the fear of following in her parents' footsteps over came the urge for a family and she ended up giving her only daughter away to a family friend that had also recently had a small litter. Not an easy decision, but one she felt necessary in that moment.
Of course, such peace never lasts long. One evening, as Riamh was heading home after a patrol, she was stopped dead by a fiery blaze rising on the horizon. The last thing she remembered was running headlong into the commotion, the only thing on her mind being prayers that her family was safe-- Wherever they were.
In the blink of an eye, she was stumbling over herself in a strange new world, memories locked behind a haze of thoughts. Faces both foreign and familiar greeted her over the next several months, nightmares plaguing her nights as she struggled for a foothold.
Barely a year after she awoke, rumors of the Nightmare made its way to the secluded home she had forged for herself. Where most Anomali may have been spooked by such stories, Riamh was nearly overjoyed by it. Yes, it wasn’t an ideal event, but at least this time it was something she could fight-- And fight she did, up until the Nightmare vanished and a celebration was called for by the Austerian royals.
