Is it in real life that the Mongoose and the Cobra are enemies? or was that just a myth usede in Pokemon.

In the story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by Rudyard Kipling, a boy saves a drowning mongoose and keeps it as a pet. The mongoose later saves him after venomous cobras threaten the boy's life.
In real life it's common for people in India to use mongooses to kill cobras. For their part, though, cobras don't care much for mongoose meat, so aside from being used for that purpose, they aren't really enemies.
Pokemon most likely modeled Zangoose and Seviper after the cobras and mongoose in Kipling's story.
