Description
Species Name: Green Tree PythonMorelia viridis
Average Adult Size: 4 to 7'
Diet: Primarily small mammals, with occasional reptiles and birds.
Habitat: Rainforests and bush of parts of Indonesia and Australia
Shot: Taken at the Rose festival in Portland, Oregon
Comments: These beautiful snakes are sometimes confused with Emerald Tree Boas. They look so similar due to evolving under similar ecological pressures, but are not in any way related to each other. You can generally tell the difference between them by the size of the scales on their heads and the position of the heat pit on their lips. The Emerald Tree Boa, unlike the egg laying Green Tree Python, gives birth to live young.
