Description

As the name implies, Fungal forest is a forest formed by mushrooms of all size, largest growing as tall as trees. It’s hard to tell if it is a day or a night, and it can be hard to breathe as the air is filled with spores, causing drowsiness and even hallucinations to those who couldn’t handle the poisonous air, or didn’t have a fire type pokemon nearby.

Fungal forest was a commonly used caravan route to the Sanctuary and today the wheels of vans had been rolling on the tracks they had created long time ago. This should have been a simple journey but needless to say, Fungal forest had seen calmer days.

”Listen up adventurers! Who’s ready to brawl?!”

Ezekial’s voice roared over the fresh adventurer recruits. This caused lots of chatter among the recruits, drowning out Ezekial’s voice, which was a quite feat. And no wonder! This was the first real mission to most greenhorn pokemon there. Amid those greenhorns were team Victory Spirit, consisting of a riolu named Vincent and his team partner, a chimchar named Veruka. The former was shaking in excitement. Vincent was so ready to fight those nasty raiders but his monkey partner wasn’t so keen about this.

Just earlier the raiders had caused a forest fire in their attempts to raid the caravans but things had blown out of hand and they had managed to anger forest’s boss, a breloom. Veruka could smell the fire and it made her uneasy. Last thing she wanted to do was to make the situation worse. She looked at her behind, the flame was flickering strongly. She moved her gaze to her hands. Just few days ago, she had hurt herself while practicing her flame wheel move. She didn’t have the move under control perfectly and using it in this situation sounded just unwise. Fire spin? No, that was even worse. She was left with shadow claw and substitute. Veruka felt worthless.

“Hey Ve! Let’s go!” Vincent’s peppy voice startled the chimchar out from her thoughts and she was greeted by Vincent’s nose that was uncomfortably close to her. The puppy smiled widely. “I want you in the front line with me and Ezekial! We’re gonna kick some raider butt” The riolu cheered and threw his fists in air.

An uncertainty filled Veruka’s face and she looked down. This was not missed by the aura puppy.

“Hey? What’s wrong?” The usual cheer was lost from his face.

“I… I don’t think I’d be useful in the front line…” Veruka whispered, not giving an eye contact to Vincent.

“What? Why do you think that?”

“I don’t want to use my fire moves Vincent. I would just make things worse there.” The monkey still avoided the eye contact.

“Phhhrrhhb! Nonsense! You are the strongest and coolest pokemon I know!” Vincent tried to cheer Veruka. The monkey remained silent but the puppy was not going to give up.

“No I’m not…”

“I mean! Just one hit from your awesome flame wheel is enough to--!”

“I CAN´T CONTROL IT VINCENT!” Veruka snapped and scared her partner. Regret filled her face immediately.

“Vincent… Go and fight with Ezekial. I’ll stay here with Canopus and defend the caravan.” Veruka murmured and tried to pull off a smile. Vincent could tell it was not sincere.

“Very well, I´ll go.” Vincent didn’t want to argue. There was no time for that and he turned around to run after Ezekial and the other pokemon who were going to fight alongside of him. He stopped and turned back to Veruka.
“But… I really think you’re the coolest and you could do this.” He said, turned back to where the main fight was and ran towards it. Veruka was left a bit shocked and felt her face burning. Partly thanks to forest fires sure. She tried to shake that off by jumping inside one of the vans and was ready to defend the goods if anyone got past Vincent and the others. Vincent and everyone were left behind as the vans continued to move, making Vincent smaller and smaller until he was lost from Veruka’s sight. She didn’t feel good letting the riolu out there alone but she was sure the puppy was safe with Ezekial. Hopefully! Surely…
