Someone on tumblr asked me how I go about imitating the splatoon style and my hand slipped. Hope you enjoy! I also created an even better brush for this while doing this so it was all good. :')I forgot to mention in the tutorial, I used Photoshop CS5.
And my tablet feels okay again! Yay! I can draw again!
Edit: updated the brush part so now creating the brush should be a lot easier. To recap, create the triangle brush and use it as a dual brush with the other to get this dry paint brush aka splatoon brush.

I dont quite get the setup for the brush. how do combine them? when i try the dual brush it doesnt look like the picture in the tutorial...

If you're not familiar with creating brushes in photoshop, I suggest searching a tutorial for that too. There should be plenty if you just google it.

Well I already know how to make a brush, but my main concern is making the dual brush look like yours. Since I use CS3 it looks different than yours, such as I can't see pen pressure in the preview box. And in making the square brush I have to make it nearly like yours or there are missed spaces in the preview. Sometimes I wonder if it'd be easier just to release a file of it, but I won't force you.

I have spent the last two hours trying to recreate your brush and I'm having issues. I just can't get a brush that looks like yours, and I made the triangle brush and the square brush exactly, 300DPI, used the same sizes, checked every checkbox, fiddled with everything after the fact... it's just not working.
I am using CS4, and it is a wee bit different, but it's not so different that anything is missing or not in a different menu, so I don't even know what the what.
EDIT HOUR LATER: I ended up doing some weird junk, but I ended up with a brush that looks close to the one you showed. Close enough anyway! Thanks for this, it took some keyboard smashing but it was really inspirational!

I think it is a mix of years of experience and the fact that I always work very big! My file resolution is always 300 and the canvas is huge. When I am done, I re-size my pictures to around 25-30% of the original size

And since you use Adobe Photoshop CS5 I guess I'll just have to implement some features to SAI since that's what I use.

Oh neat! No problem, it was a lot of fun and I even made a better brush thanks to this. And yeah, I use PS so I can't help with SAI. Hopefully you can imitate some of these tips and tricks there.
