I say a few of these "one does not simply" things on Tumblr, so I suddently thought of making one of my own, using Hercule PoirotAs it says, Poirot doesn't just come out and say who the gulity one is, he's got to explain everything about the case and how he solved it
So don't interupte him or it will just take longer!

I couldn't agree more.Β That was why I have always hated the series COLUMBO.

Because you knew in advance who the murderer is?Β Oh, but it's a different sort of drama; I love the Columbo stories because you get to watch the smug, sophisticated killer slowly crumble as Columbo picks away at the so-called "perfect crime"

"Because you knew in advance who the murderer is?"Β Answer: yes.Β It ruined the whole story.Β Since you knew who the murder is right fromΒ the start, there went the mystery.Β The whole point of a mystery story is the identity of the villain, which should be unknown until the end of the story.Β Β The different sort of drama is really no drama at all.Β Just once I would have wanted to see that smug pug loose or be proven wrong!Β
There was one episode of the maga GOLGO 13 that did give such a story; it was entitled THE IMPOSSIBLE HIT (aka ROOM 909).Β The killer shot a man from 2 miles away at sunset (with the sun in his eye) through a narrow gap between 2 buildings with a 22 mph crosswind.Β The investigator knew he had the shooter, but with all the factors involved every expert marksman would say that such a hit was impossible, eliminating any possibility of him being considered a viable suspect.
