Description
An old light bulb model reworked for cycles.Rendered at 2012 samples
Thanks
EDIT:
- Added thickness to the outer glass and reduce it's IOR. Hope fully this has got rid of the water effect.
- Turned on limited GI, added a small amount of roughness to the outer glass and added two additional light sources to make the bulb out glass more visible.

Thanks, I used [link] and specifically the Cycles render engine.

when using a renderer like cycles if you want the glass to look less thick you actually have to model the glass as it is in reality, ie. it must have thickness to it, then you won't get the thick crystal look, even tho that does look interesting!!
You could float some ink in the water to make the image look even more surreal!

Did you add a second layer to the glass to limit thickness? It looks solid.

No I didn't. But I'm re-rendering it now and that's one of the things I changed.

Its cool- since others have mentioned it-yes it looks solid or water-filled for three reasons: 1 it looks like its refracting (light bends in water) and the base of the filament looks flared out- so if it was narrower, it might not make the illusion as prominent.
Next where the bulb flares out, there is a reflection of some sort- not exactly water, but perhaps making it look like thick glass. Third- the extra glossy exterior- if you tone down the reflection it might help there too. No way I could make anything like that, but I wanted to offer some constructive points, but from my own perspective, would be real happy if I could make something half as good as this!

Now why can't all light bulbs look like that? That is very cool.

Hmm... It really looks like it's filled with water, or glass... You made it empty inside ofc?

Thank you for the critique. Yeah it is empty inside but the glass doesn't have any thickness which i think could be adding to water like effect. I'll try to improve it tomorrow.

Kinda looks like filled with water. The glass from a lightbulb doesn't really distorts the background so much. You might want to give the glass some thickness
