Description A few people had asked how I do my wraps, and I figured I'd upload a quick tutorial...taking reference photos with only one free hand is tricky.

Although you don't have to, I would love you forever if you link me in the description if you use my tutorial to make something. Also, link me what you make because I want to see it!

DISCLAIMER: If I were using a smooth symmetrical stone, I would use different techniques. But since its a rough, tumbled stone, I prefer to use a more 'off the top of my head and only measure when necessary' approach.

EDIT: Fixed the font issue, hopefully.
'Download' at your own risk, its a big file!

Curious. Where do you get the stones?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tanyquil In reply to LimeFangs [2012-12-14 17:28:53 +0000 UTC]

I got those ones from local rock and gem shops. I usually wrap polished cabochons now though, and I get those from a few etsy shops!

I honestly can't remember, but its probably some horribly embarrassing pop music.

A lot of stones to choose from? I think shorty after I started wire wrapping I got a beautiful-stones-addiction . So I have a lot too . I think your tutorial is really helpful. I've been doing wire wrapping for some time now but I never tried to use tape. And I just love tumbled stones, somehow I like to work with them, it's so uncomplicated.

Never underestimate the usefulness of tape
I use it to stabilize focal beads while I wrap around them as well!

Thats one of the best parts of wire wrapping! Whenever I shop for stones on Etsy or at local shops, my mind is going a mile a minute w/ how I'm going to wrap them

My best advice is to just look at what other people are doing, and try to figure out how to do it yourself! this gets easier with the dreaded p-word! (practice practice practice!)

That and youtube tutorials, and photo tutorials like mine. Thats pretty much how I learned, anyway!
Good luck, and throw a link on a reply if you make any pieces using my tutorial!

LonelyGabu In reply to tanyquil [2011-05-07 05:26:02 +0000 UTC]

Will do. If I can actually get the things I need to actually construct things like that lol. And unfortunately with my lack of cash flow, don't have the capital.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tanyquil In reply to LonelyGabu [2011-05-07 05:42:11 +0000 UTC]

I started w/ $20, some cheap copper wire, and some cheap rough tumbled stones from a rock and gem shop!

Set aside money till you have like $50, that's more than enough! It took me a while before I started using sterling silver wire, and you can find cheap shaped wire w/ a copper core to learn with. I still use that stuff! I think Beazu makes a line of gold and silver tone square and half round wire.

This is great. I've been half, sort-of messing with wire for a while but haven't been happy with many of my results so far. Your tutorial breaks it down nicely.

Thats great! I've been thinking about making another tutorial for some other jewelry techniques I use. This one was pretty well received, so maybe I should!
