Description
Re-uploaded without the little sketches on the right.Name: Nivenator
Name meaning: Snow Thief
Scientific name: Nivenator diabolus
Common name: Rimeraptor
Phylum: Cranidon
Class: Dracovultus
Like packs of wolves on Earth, Rimeraptors gather together to hunt and take down many large herbivores in the southern-most region of Geb, known as Manet. Unlike wolves, they do not use their teeth to inflict wounds on their prey. Instead, they make use of their elongated shoulder blades. Rather than evolving them into wings like the firmupennae have, evolution sharpened them and they gradually became cone shaped, turning them into large slightly curved lances with great durability.
Due to their dark coat color, they are often required to hunt at night or hide behind large boulders. While the large male halts and intimidates the hunted herd, the females sneak behind and approach the weakest member. They then sprint forward with a great burst of speed, impaling the target on the blades. The force of the impact can pierce rib cages. After the prey succombs to its injuries, the male allows the herd to escape. The alpha male always eat first and the females wait for the leftovers.
Just like many polar animals that also have interesting "bony" features (tusks, bizarrely shaped claws etc...), Rimeraptors not only have the shoulder lances but also bear very interesting toe nails. They have cutting edges pointing backwards to help them climb ice slopes and cut up their kill into pieces it can then snatch with their tongue and swallow with ease. Many polar predators needed to find alternate way to kill, cut and bring their food to their mouths since exposing their tongue to the cold causes loss of body heat (and it may risk having the tongues stick to the ice if they misjudge their aim). If there were any space tourists visiting Geb, many of them would likely collect skeleton pieces of polar animals and bring them home as a souvenir.
