Sweetie: intelligence, exploiting enemy mistakes

3 most fragile classes in the game doesn't strike me as a good combo for taking and holding a point, even if one of them's the Engi.

Well, most hats, are useless; promos or purely aesthetic. That being said, a select few complete item sets that do provide stat bonuses.

I realize that I might not be Chesh, but the hats were originally introduced just to be a fun way to customize your character, though by now they've expanded into something of their own mini-economy.
For the most part, the majority of TF2's hats don't have any real purpose (with the exception of the Polycount hats when used with the sets), though they can distinguish your appearance if there were any Spies around disguised as you.
