RANGSI government officials exist as two distinct parallel rank categories. These are Governors and Specialists. Governors are groomed for broad leadership roles and have vision, but not necessarily the specific expertise and experience to accomplish this vision. This specific expertise is then supplied by Specialists, bureaucrats who head specialised departments and serve as the Governors’ advisors. In 21st Century military terminological terms, Governors are akin to officers while Specialists are the NCOs. While encouraged to be kept separate, crossing from one track to another does happen and is possible either upon personal request (which, alone, is discouraged because it would mean restarting from the lowest rank) or by a superior’s recommendation-slash-appointment.

As expected from a militaristic society of conscripts and reservists, rank is given special emphasis in political life and it is not surprising that the government basically operates like the military just without arms, with its focus on hierarchy and the ‘chain of command’. RANGSI is also probably among the only few nations in the galaxy whose civilian government has actual military-style ranks that they display on shoulder boards. RANGSI government uniforms are also not at all too dissimilar from military dress uniforms.
