Description
The life of an infantry grunt isn't easy, even in the space age. Some of the notable equipment carried by RANGSI riflemen include:1) S36A1+GL Auto-Railgun
The heart of the rifle squad and the primary instrument of the common rifleman. The S36A1 is an improved model of RANGSI's first standard-issue automatic railgun rifle, the S36, which was retooled and slightly redesigned to be more reliable in the muck, swamp and mud the rifleman wades through for a living. The A1 model brings back bullet casings, this time instead of gunpowder the casings are reversed and they are filled with electroactive oxidiser cleaning agents to clear the barrel of any dirt or foreign matter stuck inside. Because of the increased size due to the return of the bullet casing the magazine capacity is reduced back to 30 rounds but reliability is significantly increased and maintenance is easier. All soldiers are riflemen and all riflemen are grenadiers, that is why the standard configuration of the S36A1 rifle for every rifleman features an underbarrel 40mm grenade launcher in order to enable the squad to attack viciously and defend tenaciously. If you lose this rifle, you lose your weekend.
2) T9 Bayonet-Knife
The favoured melee weapon for close quarters combat and the embodiment of the squad's aggression. Especially wielded when the berserk mode in the rifleman's neural chips are activated.
3) Grenadier Belt
Has 4 grenade pouches for TG-90 HE-FRAG grenades and six pouches for the 40mm grenades of various types depending on the mission.
4) 3L Water Bag
Hydration system that is inserted into an external pouch on the back of the SIBAS-4 vest. The dreaded burden of kit inspections as those who do not fill it up enough are sent to refill them while others must hold it up above their heads in the spirit of one for all all for one.
5) Modular Tool Blade
Also known as the MT Blade, it is a simple entrenching tool that features a wooden stick and two blades, a flat one for digging shellscrapes and trenches while the spade variant is used for digging up soil, primarily to fill up sandbags. The activities associated with the MT Blade commonly causes heat rashes.
6) First Aid Kit (FAK)
The FAK contains some basic first aid equipment, such as the FAD bandage roll, 4 tubes of sterilized water, a box of plasters, 4 rolls of gauze, a pair of sterile gloves and a pair of scissors. If the soldier is not found with a FAK in his right thigh pocket, the company sergeant-major will make them run around the company building with their FAK shouting in front of everybody that if they die in combat no one should save them.
7) Waterproof Jacket, 'Gortex'
Commonly referred to as 'Gortex' after some ancient company who manufactured similar items, this rolled-up waterproof jacket is to be worn in wet weather conditions. Also very popular as a pillow when sleeping in the field.
8) Personal Arm Computer
A flexible tablet capable of many things such as accessing the battlenet, viewing maps, short-range communications and entertainment. Has a 'D-Pen', which stands for Diagnostics Pen, a stylus-like device primarily used to interact with their uniform's electrochemical fabric and change camo-patterns on the fly. If in an area with good reception, soldiers can even access the internet. Just don't let the company sergeant-major catch you in your most private and intimate moments.
9) Spice Rack
No Singaporean worth their salt goes into the field without a spice rack. An unofficial piece of gear, this is whatever spices and sauces a soldier can cram in the smallest container possible to make his or her meals in the field much more appetizing. Good for morale. Not good when it is stolen at night.
10) I-Ration
Short for Instant Ration. A 24 hour package that includes 2 mains in a vacuum sealed packet, some biscuits, cakes and sweets, powdered beverages and even accessories such as moist towelettes, solid fuel tablets and a box of matches. A heating packet is also included with two heating tablets that release heat when water is poured into the packet, allowing soldiers to enjoy hot meals in the field. The amount of entres available is uncountable and only the highest levels of quartermasters know the exact number of types of I-Ration meals there are. Soldiers either eat by pushing up the food or with the use of the standard issue spork.
11) Rifle Cleaning Kit
Also known as the RCK, this kit is a must-have for cleaning and maintaining arms. Includes a variety of barrel brushes, tweezers for getting through hard to reach places, metal rods that can combine together to pull through the barrel, a roll of cleaning cloth, a belt of oxidising bullets that are specifically designed to clean and clear the barrel when fired and a small bottle of oil for lubricating metallic parts. Commonly stored together with a larger green cloth in a ziploc bag.
12) Toiletry Pack
Another must-have for hygiene purposes. Includes a roll of toilet paper, a couple of soap-sponges that release soap when moistened with some water and is good for scrubbing out dirt from the skin, a toothbrush, a shaver and a bottle of foot powder. If that bottle is not fully filled, get ready to see the whole pack thrown away a couple of meters during kit inspections.
13) Canteen
Stores a liter of water. It is commonly misunderstood that it is to be used for drinking. It is instead used to train the forearm muscles during 'water parades' where soldiers must hold the canteen at a ninety-degree angle, arms fully parallel to the ground, before they drink lest the sergeant orders them to start all over again.
