Sorrel hasn't met many people, and his mother was a very cautious woman, so he doesn't trust people with his feelings. He's also aware of how young and naive he is, and prefers to keep his mouth shut so he doesn't make a fool of himself.

Cowardly
Sorrel is rightfully fearful seeing as how there are so many things that can kill a young one such as himself in the wild. He doesn't take any unnecessary risks, and chooses flight over fight any chance he's given. Being afraid keeps him alive and he plans to stay that way.

Driven
He may not know it, but the boy has the spirit of a sled dog- willing to do whatever it takes to reach his goal (and he likes to go fast...). His willpower overthrows his fearful nature, though it may take some mustering to fight his timidness back.

Humble
Sorrel has no reason to feel prideful. He's seen how far humility can take a person and how one can die with their pride. There was a time when he felt proud to be the son of his father, but that time has passed.

Altruistic
Sorrel knows struggle well, and his kind and humble heart is drawn to those in need. He tries his best to help others when he can, but given his lack of aptitude in most areas due to his harsh start on life, there isn't much he can do for the time being.

Botanist
Sorrel seems to have the same affinity for natural beauty as his mother (and unbeknownst to him, his father), but to a greater extent. He's found his passion in herbalism as medicinal plants have been his one constant source of comfort throughout his life- being the one thing that extended his mother's life and soothed his various forms of discomfort. His mother showed him common edible plants, and his knowledge only grows with the help of friendly strangers, advisers, and personal trial and error.

Inept (self-proclaimed)
Sorrel idolizes those who are physically adept and well-learned in any field of study. His solitude has left him ignorant, half starved, and in constant fear. He is easily rattled and often fumbles around on his ganging limbs, like a newborn fawn, out of nervousness. Under the right conditions, his impressive speed and stamina can be seen, but he refuses to believe he has any outstanding traits whatsoever.

Pre-Group History:
During one of his frequent "pest control" runs, Sorrel's father, Hero, was lured off the trail of a raccoon by a much more enticing odor. The alluring scent lead him to a solitary canine, and she was in heat. It took hours of distant coaxing to get the female to trust him, and Hero took pity on the poor thing- what life had she lived that cause her to be so tentative? He spent the entire day with the female, fed her, made her feel comfortable, cared for, but he never saw her again after that day. He felt like a liar, a thief even. Hero was ashamed of what he had done and he couldn't bring himself to face it.

Months passed and the female gave birth to two pups, but only one survived. It was probably for the best though, she was young and inexperienced. The two lived alone, feeding off of carcasses and small game, and Sorrel's mother would fill the large gaps of time he would've spent playing with his sibling telling him stories. Her favorite thing to talk about was his father. He may have abandoned her, but she never saw it that way. He gave her life light if only for a brief moment, and she held that moment close to her heart forever after that. To her, he was her Hero.

There wasn't much to talk about with Hero since their time together was so short, but she made him sound like the greatest thing in the world. She would describe him as "a kind man with wild eyes" and give the most lucid descriptions of the male. The way he walked, the way he talked, his smile which she always said was as good as a hug without wrapping his arms around you, everything. Sorrel was mesmerized by her powerful description of the father he never knew, and kept every verbal image she gave him locked in his head. Though, he couldn't help but wonder: if he was so great, then way wasn't he with them?

More months went by and Sorrel's mother was unfortunately injured during a hunt. Sorrel was still too young to hunt on his own, but the two were able to travel around picking off dead carcasses... until they weren't. His mother's wounds became infected, and she didn't last much longer after that.

Now Sorrel tries his best to find safety and companionship with the strangers that surround him, still holding on to the words of his mother as he hopes desperately to find his father. Only now her words held no light in his head, but instead, an inky black rage that drowned his mind.

None of this would've happened if it wasn't for him.
