Description
A semi original weapon I made for my imperial world. The Larionov M39 Anti-material Rifle belongs to the Astra Militarum regiments of Kray Mira and it's Planetary Defense Force.
It is a 20mm anti-tank rifle said to have first appeared in Kray Mira's past, dating back at least to the late 30th Millennium. This heavy weapon has excellent accuracy, penetration and range, but its size makes transportation difficult. In addition to its "tank hunting" role, the Larionov can be used for long range sniping and, with its fully automatic variant, employed as an improvised anti-aircraft weapon. The rifle is a semi-automatic, gas operated weapon with the piston located beneath the barrel and ammunition feed from detachable top-mounted magazine with bottom ejection for the spent cartridges. To reduce recoil, the rifle is equipped with a five-hole muzzle brake and a recoil pad. The barrel has a jacket to allow transportation after firing has caused the barrel to heat up. To combat the Larionov's immense recoil, the recoil spring was so stiff that it would be impossible to cock the weapon with a traditional charging handle. Instead, a rotating crank lever on the right side of the gun is used to pull the bolt back. While semi-automatic in function, the Larionov's bolt locks back after every shot, and the grip safety also functions to release the bolt. In the field, a two-man team was assigned to the gun to move and fire it. Some rifles were abandoned in the heat of battle, but they were easy to replace.
It normally employes powerful armour-piercing bolt rounds that use a heavier main charge with its uranium core replaced by a solid wolframium core; upon impact, the outer casing peels away and the high-velocity wolframium needle accelerates into the victims, where the larger detonator propels shards of super-hardened metal further into the wound. Interestingly, the Larionov M39 can employ both caseless and cased ammo, with projectiles made of metal, plastic and/or ceramics, and can be fed via double or quad stack magazines (10 and 20 rounds respectively). Additionally, it can fire a large variety of ammunition types, such as incendiary rounds, explosive micro-shrapnel, bolt rounds, ripper darts and solid slugs.
As with my previous post, it's kinda inspired on the Soviet Union and modern day Russia, though this one in particular is based on the finnish Lahti L-39. Hope you like it!
