Description

After being raised hearing stories of his ancestors riding with the Russian hussars and lore of the admirable mounts they rode, Javad decided it was high time to visit the stable that continued that legacy - Imperials, in the hopes that he may obtain a reliable, confident, courageous partner for the challenging, survivalist endurance rides he likes to take on. Needless to say, things didn't go completely as planned, but thankfully Javad isn't one to back down from a challenge.

Buckle in, long story ahead.

"I'd like to get to know your stock. I'm not a novice rider, I compete in long distance rides, often in harsh environments. I need a horse that is not only physically capable of keeping up, but mentally able to tackle the challenges we'll face. He will need a strong mind. I need… a partner. Maybe you can help, yes?"

Damon understood very well what he was looking for, but maybe he should enlighten him about the difficulties with his horses “I sure have some candidates you describe, one less fierce, one with more temper. But what you have to consider, is that these horses are not really ridden. We try to give them mostly horse contacts, a strong herd mentality, good friendships with other horses but not with humans, they bond with their partner too much to break it when they are being sold. Thus...all of the Admiralskaya for sale are barely saddle trained. And not very friendly. The buyer will have to trust onto the parent performance and that the effort will pay off to earn their trust.“ he raised his hands like there is no way around it.

Javad nodded with a subtle grin as Damon warned him about the lack of training the young horses had, to which he fully understood. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. The kind of horse I am looking for should accept no other rider but me.” He was no stranger to riding green horses. From his own family’s personal horses to the half wild ponies in Mongolia, he’d taken his fair share of dives and was confident in his ability to back tough youngstock. “Of course I would like to see the horses you have available and if there is a suitable prospect, I would like to ride.” He gave Damon a confident look, as if to say ‘we agree, yes?’ and made a gesture down the aisle for the blond to lead the way.

It was difficult for Damon to believe that Javad knew what he was getting himself into, but he nodded in a respectful way, after all, one can always learn something new. Maybe he would miraculously click with one of the studs. Who was he not to believe in miracles. He led the way to the two youngsters, both already standing proud with thick necks for their age, a noble roman head and an intelligent look in their eyes. A dark chocolate bay with large blaze and ice blue eyes who laid his ears somewhat flat at the sight of the stranger and turned his butt at the visitors, not really feeling the get to know. The silver maned jet black next to him flared his nostrils as if daring the newbie to try him, pawing the ground the longer the two men stood there to study him. If one wouldn't know better, they’d think an Arabian stallion was lost in the Russian horse. “Both are endurance prospects, but versatile ones. Haski and Anatoliy. Four and a half years old. If lineages are to your interest I can give you their papers to look at” he already held them ready just in case. A red headed stable hand was standing ready next to Damon, just waiting for instructions to fetch the saddle or halter.

Javad only nodded as he inspected the bay, aware that the silver’s eyes never left him. When, after a long moment, the bay showed no curiosity or interest, the young man’s attention turned to the antsy black colt. Both were more loudly marked than he had hoped for, but the silver maned stallion held his gaze. He observed as the young Skya flared his nostrils, pawed at the floor and shook his massive neck, almost daring him, challenging him to come closer. Javad didn’t move however, he only watched, reading the horse’s body language. Tilting his head slightly in curiosity, Javad spoke to Damon while still keeping his eyes on Anatoliy. “What’s his story? He’s bold.”

Damon was making an unamused face at the bay while Javad was checking the papers, showing not exactly his sugary side today. He was otherwise such a decent horse! He returned his attention to the guest as soon as he was addressed with a question. “Well. Anatoliy is the offspring of a very cheeky horse. Alekseevka is very smart and constantly plays tricks on his rider. On the dam’s side he is related to my partner’s horse Dyonisos who is by his own definition a god. And wants to be treated as equal at minimum. He may have gotten that ego from there - also he was attempted to be bought before, but was returned being called hopeless, I really do not think he is, however” he folded his hands behind his back. “He requires a bit more wit than other horses”

“No horse that looks at a man like that is hopeless,” Javad answered matter-of-factly, crossing his arms over his chest with a look of great contemplation. Finally breaking his stare, he looked over at Damon. "I'd like to ride him. I want to see what he knows and how he thinks.

“Excellent.” Damon smiled

Taking time to quickly change and allow the groom to tack the young stallion, Javad returned and yet again studied the stallion, reading his posture and the expression in his eyes. His approach was slow and calculated, giving the stallion time to get used to him as well. Taking the reins, he thanked the groom and set to work. It was clear from the way he handled the stallion that this wasn't his first time working a green horse. He was calm, and patient, yet firm in his actions. He walked the stallion, talking to him in a low, neutral voice, ignoring all the silver's little attempts to rattle and test him. Once he felt confident that he could get in the saddle, Javad effortlessly swung himself up and centered his weight, waiting for the stallion to try to unseat him, but the silver simply stood and waited. Javad was, of course, suspicious, but he clicked his tongue and asked the colt for a walk. One stride turned to two, but that was the end of the stallion's cooperation. He'd known well enough to let the stranger get comfortable, but that was the extent of his interest in this. Just as quickly as the ride had begun, it fell apart as Anatoliy crow hopped sideways across the arena, snorting and bucking. Javad held his seat as best he could, coming out of it more than once, his sunglasses flying off into the arena sand. Anatoliy's patience wore thin, having expected the strange man to be off his back by now. Growing frustrated, he resorted to sharp spins and harder bucks, which despite his best efforts, unseated Javad, dumping him unceremoniously on the arena floor. Anatoliy trotted proudly at his accomplishment, to which Javad gave a scoff of a laugh. "Well he's certainly spirited, and stubborn, and powerful," he groaned a little as he got to his feet, rubbing his backside. He may not have won, but that hadn't been the point. He saw what he wanted to see. Looking to Damon, he gave a defeated smile. "I'd like to hear more about him. Is that offer for a drink still on the table?"

Damon felt like watching slow motion as the stud suddenly changed his mind about being cooperative - there went the second potential buyer flying with little to no grace from the saddle. He made a painful expression when he landed, Anatoliy was not a short horse, but would it hurt his pride to go and help him up? Should he pretend he did not see it? He was too worried for that and approached but at the same time gave Irina a gesture to be so kind and try to catch the youngster. “Are you alright?” he asked with a concerned voice but the man seemed to be standing up already before he’d have offered help. He blinked a bit surprised...hearing more about him? “Yes...it does. If you are still up for it”

TLDR; Javad decides to try riding a young Skya and finds himself landing in the dirt. Thankfully that doesn't deter him from inquiring further on purchasing the stallion.
