About this horse:
Marlo is an interesting mare with a lot of attitude and a lot of potential. She is prone to mareish days where she is a downright pain to work with and will buck, kick, nip, and seem to deliberately sabotage any decent work. However, on her good days she is very responsive, razor sharp mentally, and shows off her phenomenal athletic ability. She is incredibly physically tough, with legs and hooves like iron, and stamina to go for days. She has a very clean jump when she wants to, and the smoothest trot anyone could wish for.

For all her faults, Marlo is a decent mare in general. As long as you are willing to put up with her bad days, she is great mare to have around. She is very steady and a natural leader around other horses, though this can be a pain when she is acting up as the other horses tend to feed off her. But she provides a great confidence boost for the nervous youngsters that need a guide to show them the way. She has been passed over numerous times as a breeding mare due to her loud colouring, however with the right rider we hope she will unlock her boundless potential as a riding horse and prove to be an amazing breed ambassador.

Notes:
Should not be bred to any stallions carrying white. If the resulting foal has extensive white (more than the 25% rule) it will not be suitable for registration.

"So. What's wrong with her?" Aashi didn't skip any corners, didn't waste any time getting to the point. She'd browsed the isle, her eyes drifting over the horses one by one, each less impressive than the last. The smile on her trainer's lips faded further with each critique. Too small, too quiet, too obedient. When they reached the boldly marked, copper mare, Aashi's headed tilted back, her gaze scrutinizing every inch of her confirmation. Her file wasn't in the prospective pile in Aashi's lap, but she seemed to be available for bids. Tabby had quickly pulled up the mare's bio on her tablet. "Lots of attitude and potential. Responsive. Smooth trot. Steady."

"So. What's wrong with her?"

"Aside from the 'Caution: I bite' sign?" Tabby chuckled skeptically.

"I'm not concerned with that," Aashi retorted.

"It seems she's earmarked as a jumper. Might be why Cavan didn't hand us her file," Tabby murmured, scrolling through the mare's information.

"Mmmm... she's got a heavier build than most of the others," Aashi noted. "If her gait is as smooth as they say, she'd be a good dressage prospect."

"Possibly. All the looks in the world doesn't mean she's got the mind for it," Tabby reminded her student. They need more than just a dressage prospect. They needed a horse that was mentally flexible, eager to learn. Retraining for Aashi's needs was a challenging task that not every animal was made for. "Her grading is really low Aashi. I'm really not sure she's going the right fit. Why don't we take another look at the bay."

"No." Her opinion had already been firmly made regarding the docile mare. Her eyes lacked the spirit Aashi sought. Meanwhile, the copper mare was staring Aashi down, as if to ask what the hell she was doing here. "I want to take her out. What's her name?"

"Uhm," Tabby scrolled back up. "Marlo. You sure?"

"Yes."

Well, alright. I'll go find someone to help us."

-------

With staff watching over, Tabby lead the tobi mare into the arena where Aashi sat waiting. She was already showing signs of being stubborn, mareish and independent. Her attention was as far from Tabby as it could be, her ears pricked to all the goings on surrounding them. Her tail flicked in irritation and her gait had an energetic bounce. As they approached Aashi, the mare's attention pinpointed to the wheelchair, a loud snort fluttering her nostils as she quickly side stepped.

"Really?" Aashi grinned. "Give me her lead," she extended her hand.

"You sure?" Tabby hesitated, not entirely comfortable with the introduction thus far.

"Yes," Aashi was firm, her hand waving for the red-haired woman to hand her the lead.

Tabby reluctantly did so, but stood close, hovering protectively as she watching the pair.

The mare pawed the arena sand, jigging side to side as she inspected the strange contraption in which the woman sat. Aashi was patient, waiting until the warmblood finally stood still, sides heaving as she still snorted and eyed the wheelchair. "You're okay," Aashi spoke in a soft, steady voice. "Come on," she extended her hand. It was clear the mare was curious, and sure enough, with a little patience, Marlo stepped forward; her velvety muzzle pressing into Aashi's palm. "That's a good girl."

"I'd like to see her under saddle," Aashi spoke over her shoulder. "Would you be willing to get on her?"

Tabby nodded, stepping forward to reclaim the lead. "Yeah, I think that's doable. You really like the look of her?"

"I like her attitude. She's a fighter."

"That's not always a good thing," Tabby smiled, giving Aashi an uncertain look.

Aashi glanced between Tabby and Marlo, her lips taught as she studied the mare's eyes. "I like a horse that won't give up."

-------

"She's very forward," Tabby remarked, hands keeping the reins firmly collected as the mare's stride swallowed the ground beneath them.

"That's a good thing," Aashi replied. "I can see why she'd make a good jumper, but I still think she'd make a good dressage prospect."

"She's very leg responsive."

"We can work on that."

Slowing the mare down to a trot, walk, then halt, Tabby patted her neck for a job well done. "She's going to need a lot of consistency. A lot activity. I do see what you see Aashi, but I have my concerns."

"Like?"

"You're going to be away for months here in a bit, with Kona, and I'm going to be in the States. I still believe you should wait until after the Olympics to find another horse."

Aashi's lips pursed as she puzzled over her options. There were no doubts that Marlo was what she was looking for. She was the right age, the right attitude. She was a perfect prospect as a second mount. Eyes darting up to Tabby's, Aashi lit up. "What about the Sky?"

"Sky? What about him."

"He's sticking around, right? He needs a horse."

"For cross country, yeah."

Aashi tilted her head, brow raised. "That would keep her busy."

"Yes... it would. Sounds like you have a phone call to make."

______________________________

TL;DR | Aashi's looking for a prospective second mount, but she's going to be busy with Kona in England for several months as they work their way through the Olympic qualifiers. With no one to train or ride her for an extended period, bringing Marlo home now could leave her with worse behavior than it's worth, and make her para training near impossible. Aashi's solution is to offer the mare for lease, to Sky, who's recently been offered a trial position at DREC as a cross country rider. It's a win-win situation, she just has to hope the KhC staff agrees.

Wew I have been waiting for this girl for SO LONG GUYS. I had zero clue what I would do for a bid, but I have been head over heels for her design and I knew something would work out. With Aashi and Sky now in the picture, it all just fits. Fingers crossed x . x

She really XD

And that's the hope ; u ; While Aashi is working on her Olympic career with Kona, Sky will keep Marlo occupied with cross country and dressage until Aashi is ready to retain her as a para horse ^^

This is an amazing entry <3

The poses, anatomy, colors and shading are all so lovely.

And that story adds so much to the entry.  Marlo would make such a lovely second mount for Aashi, while getting some attention from Sky in near future.

Good luck.
